    This episode is bringing a new chapter to the DTS gang! There have been bright young minds who are scientific researchers, start-uppers, coordinators on the pod, but never an Olympian!
    Iris Yan is a two time U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad qualifier, being in the top 20 in the entire States, a three-time National Science Bowl qualifier, the team was placed 5th in 2019. She is a math and chem whiz, having successfully participated at numerous scientific competitions. Each summer, 80 of the world's most accomplished high school students gather at (MIT) for the Research Science Institute (RSI), and Iris is an RSI'19 Alumna.   • 26. A Novel Method for Skeletal Age Estimation Based on Cranial Suture Analysis - Andrey Gizdov
    The EUCYS'19 series continues! Andrey Gizdov won one of the Joint Research Centre Prizes at the European Contest for Young Scientists 2019 in Sofia, Bulgaria with a project in which he developed a novel method for skeletal age estimation based on cranial suture analysis. Andrey is also an Intel ISEF finalist (where he received Arizona State University's Intel ISEF Scholarship), a Computer Vision Researcher at the Weizmann Institute of Science and winner of multiple national and international awards.

  • 24. Hibla: an alternative sound absorption material - Neil David Cayanan, Shaira Gozun
    A sound project - Literally (+ better podcast sound quality than ever). Neil David Cayanan, Shaira Gozun and E’van Relle Tongol created a sound absorption material out of locally available materials possible! They won the Best Team Research in Physical Science during the 2019 Department of Education National Science and Technology Fair in the Philippines. At ISEF 2019 they received Honorable Mention from the Acoustical Society of America, the team was competing in Material Science. They recently had the opportunity to attend ASA’s 178th Meeting in San Diego. Also, super fresh news: after the ASA Meeting, they received First Place - Technical Committee on Architectural Acoustics Best Student Paper!     Who would be better to share more about it than…Ivaylo Zhelev, who is a scientific researcher in Artificial Intelligence at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, while completing his Bachelor studies at the University of Groningen. With his project "Digital image denoising based on sphere-constrained total variation method with an additional noise component" he won Special prize of Intel ISEF at the European Union Contest for Young Scientists (EUCYS) in 2018, and participated at ISEF 2019. 🙌 #isefgang #eucysgang Ivaylo, working diligently on the EUCYS organisation team I might add, was involved in organising the first EUCYS Alumni Meeting in Sofia, Bulgaria! 🎉

Sauhaarda Chowdhuri is an Aerospace Robotics and ML researcher whose innovative PhonoNet System = Multi-Stage Deep Neural Networks used for raga (melodic frameworks) identification in Indian Classical music! He aimed to provide computational prediction of ragas so singers could receive live feedback when learning + preserving digitally important features of the music. Nothing proves its success more than receiving 3 awards at ISEF’19: Best Use of Data Award by GoDaddy, 3rd place in Robotics and Intelligent Machines and 3rd place Acoustical Science Award (Acoustical Society of America).
