What's up Drumtrepreneurs! This week we are chatting with Juan Carlito Mendoza. This is my absolute dream interview and one I have waited a very long time to do. Juan is an educator and Adjunct professor at the New Jersey City University and the band director at William C. Juan is also the winner of the 2012 guitar center drum off and in my opinion the best entry of all time. This interview shows the humbled approach Juan brings to any conversation showing his true obsession with music, drums, and educate others in the most reliable way possible.

We shed light once again on the 7 attempts Juan took to win the Guitar Center Drum off and using the power of goal setting to win.

Juan was by far one of the most successful guests we have ever had firmly detailing his understanding of what it takes to be successful in the music industry. It's important to point out a few bullet points from this chat that really play a role in Juan's success.

* Obsessive habits: Juan obsessed over the drums his entire life to the point of no return and because of that his ability to find joy in a practice pad allows him to feel good about spending 7-8 hours focusing on his hands

* Diligent with the details: Juans ability to stare at his hands for hours, listen to recordings of himself for weeks, and obsesses over breaking down 1 single pattern into 20+ different variations is a clear indicator of his fluid understanding of rudiments and timing.

Juan is a pillar of success speaking a level of drumming language that only a few unique people have had the luxury of speaking and a drummer I feel everyone can take a page from. Learning what I have learned today has given me some serious inspiration of my own. Remember, its the small steps that over time result in GIANT results..

What's up Drumtrepreneurs! This week we are chatting with Steve Pruitt! Steve Pruitt is a multi-faceted drummer with experience, efficacy, and industry credit that goes beyond the levels that many drummers will ever be able to fathom... Hailing from Oklahoma City, Steve is a graduate of North Texas University, a student of Ed Soph, former drummer of Snarky Puppy, and a well sought out clinician and studio musician that resides in Seoul, South Korea. Steve has one heck of a mind and his complete obsession with drums and everything about the drums leaks through heavily during this chat as we plunge into the life story of the amazing Steve Pruitt.

Key Points from today's episode:

* We start the show strong with a detailed look at the life of Steve Pruitt starting at age 8 when his parents purchased drum sets for both his sisters along with a boring guitar for him. After only a few short days Steve figured out a way to bargain a trade with his sisters for one of the drumsets. This is where it all began.

* Steve give us the details of his first teacher who was exceptionally loving and caring but equally as strict. He explains how she was sensible enough to keep him on a pad for the first 6-12 months of his lessons before pushing the parents to invest more into the instrument.

* Steve breaks down his experience with Snarky Puppy and what led him to moving all the way to North Korea, getting married, changing his entire way of life and still managing to crush it as a drummer on all levels. He even tells us about his recent performances at the 2018 Olympics in Pyong Chang.

When Scott set this show up I was not in the know regarding today's guest which made today's one in which we truly let it flow. Steve is a stand-up human being that really begs us to ask ourselves the question "Am I working to my true potential?"  His ability to navigate such a strong and prosperous should serve as a blueprint for many of us and will add to the bank of inspiration I get from the drummers Kevin and I are so honored to interview.
