Today begins the new liturgical year for the Church as we prepare anew for the coming of Christmas and reflect on the soon-coming Christ. But, as a way of preparing our hearts for that coming, this year, from today until Christmas eve we will reflect on the Gospel of Luke. As such, let us turn our hearts toward God and hear His word proclaimed.

The early Church did believe that Jesus was Divine and realized that he was distinct from God the Father in some way. While there is no clear evidence that this belief was fully rationalized, as it is since the Church defined the Trinity and how Jesus was the Son after 7 major councils, they did believe in the truth that he was God.

When we come to understand Jesus as the Son of God, we come to understand him as a divine person. This was not the original meaning of the term, but since the 1st century AD it has come to mean the divine reality of Jesus as the only-begotten Son of God, a Divine Person.

There is a lot that can and has been said about the name of Jesus. Knowing what the phrase in Jesus' name means is important if we are going to develop our relationship with him and be more the kind of people that he calls us to be. For in that name we gain freedom, healing, and answers to our prayers.

The name of Jesus is a very powerful name. The reason why is because it has so much meaning. It informs us first of his redemptive purpose as our Savoir. It points us to the basic gospel message about our deliverance from sin. And it speaks of his Incarnation.
