DTVC Podcast

Ty from Comeuppance Reviews is back for his monthly spot on the pod. We're calling this episode The Phillippe Phactory, because we're featuring two poor man's Ryan Phillippes, Cam Gigandet and Kellan Lutz. First we're looking at Gigandet in "Blowback," which also stars Randy Couture. Then with Lutz we look at "Due Justice," which also stars Jeff Fahey and Pedro from "Napoleon Dynamite." Finally, in our Spotlight on a Fight, we looked at Seagal in "Under Siege 2," plus we added a new feature where we look at slang terms the kids use.

"DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some weeks in addition to the main podcast. In this episode we're continuing our look at the Superman pre-DCEU films with Superman III and Supergirl. For the first one, I look at what went wrong here, and what parts of it I enjoyed in spite of itself. Then with Supergirl I look at areas where this film was a first in the comic book genre, but again what went wrong.

In this special episode, we're joined by Jon from After Movie Diner and Miscellaneous Plumbing Fixtures to discuss the Jean-Claude Van Damme DTV flick "Inferno" aka "Desert Heat." Released by PM, this film has everything, from brown face, to Danny Trejo giving Van Damme a foot massage, to a Hanks brother, and we break it all down.

You can find the After Movie Diner on all major podcatchers, and on YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook Live. For Miscellaneous Plumbing Fixtures, you can listen on Spotify, or go here for his Bandcamp, where you can find a new release this Friday! https://miscplumbingfixtures.bandcamp.com/

Scott Murphy from All 90s Action, All the Time and New Horror Express is back to discuss another Steven Seagal DTV flick, this time 2007's "Flight of Fury," which was a rip-off of Dudikoff's "Black Thunder." As always, we look at the good, the bad, and the problematic--and as is often the case, the latter two are much better represented. Scott also gives us some background on the UK actors who made the trip to Romania to act opposite Seagal's stunt double, and the volume of padding in the film takes us on a tangent about American football.

"DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some weeks in addition to the main podcast. In this episode we're starting our look at the Superman pre-DCEU films with Superman and Superman II. For the first one, I look at how this might be the best comic book film ever, and why it deserves that title. For part two, I look at both the "Lester cut" and the Donner cut, which one I prefer, and areas where I felt this one could've been better, regardless of whose cut it was.

Ty from Comeuppance Reviews is back for his monthly spot on the pod. First we look at a "Final Kill" from the director of "Most Dangerous Game," which has a dash of Billy Zane and a smidge of Johnny Messner. Second, we look at "Bloodline Killer," a thriller with a baddie unironically called "Skulleton." Finally, in our Spotlight on a Fight, we looked at John Cusack and Benny "The Jet" Urquidez "Grosse Pointe Blank."

"DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some weeks in addition to the main podcast. In this episode I'm doing a one-off look at "Deadpool & Wolverine." I start with the context of how we got to this film, going back to Deadpool's first appearance in 1990, how he grew from villain to anti-hero, and the history of attempts at adaptations before we finally got it in 2016. From there I get into the movie, looking at what worked, and why it worked. Finally, I finish with a look at where Marvel is now, and how this film fits with the recent announcement that RDJ will be playing Dr. Doom.

In this episode I'm joined once again by Will from Exploding Helicopter, this time to look at the Cirio H. Santiago post-apocalyptic flick "Equalizer 2000," starring Richard Norton. We get into the hallmarks of the post-apocalyptic film overall, how Italian directors and Cirio H. Santiago tried to mine Mad Max's success, plus go on a tangent about the differences in American and European sports. In addition, my opening thought extols the virtues of the morning matinee, and I give some theories on why theater-goers are so bad now.

"DTVC Extra" are shorter solo episodes that I'll be posting on some weeks in addition to the main podcast. In this episode we're finishing our look at the Ip Man films. With Ip Man 3, I look at the how the story continues from part 2, and how Mike Tyson is included. I also talk a bit about "Master Z: The Ip Man Legacy". With part 4 I look at how the series concludes, Donnie Yen's legacy as the hero, and how he developed the character over the four films. I also chat about Scott Adkins's part, and how his character as written was too one-note.

In this episode I'm joined by Freddie Young from Full Moon Reviews as we discuss the Cynthia Rothrock/Godfrey Ho classic, "Undefeatable." We get into Ho as a director, and his technique of putting unrelated movies together with newly shot footage to create myriad films. And then with the movie, we look at all the craziness happening, yet how it all works in spite of the craziness. Before all of that, I lead with an opening thought on films by major directors that aren't available to stream on demand.
