  • Developing a character with malicious intent
What is better? Have the bare minimum of character development or having a character, that is developed so far and deep, that you lose the initial idea of said character? What is more suitable for the FPS game? I bet you already know the answer, but let’s dive into the character development through the cutscenes.

  • The music of Rain compels you!
When you pick up the game about the mysterious occurrences in the remote city in the US where there are only two people interested in the situation one being a person of action and open-minded and the other is firmly standing on the ground, you get… No, not the X-Files, it’s Kathy Rain, the game is so obviously inspired by the X-Files, that it works with the formula rather well. Apart from the one thing – the music. Music in this game is not something you should be hyped about. But let’s dig deeper and find the truth, somewhere out there.

  • A Short Narrative. I can be wrong
A Short Hike is a very sunny and nice indie game that we were looking at on Twitch recently and I thought that having so little time as couple of hours of gameplay and quite a silent protagonist, the game has a very strong narrative design and should be dissected for the knowledge. And I can’t be quite objective about this game so bear in mind, your mileage may vary.

  • You are going to suck when you begin
Your first game, even if it’s not your real first game will suck major time. Wanna see how you can make it better? Learn from the good people in the industry, learn from the developers of Shadowrun Returns. Don’t repeat after them. Analyze what they did, extrapolate it, use this knowledge to become a better consumer, developer or just a better person. Just… don’t try to make larger-than-life game as your first one, ok?

  • Crafting your own undoing
Sometimes crafting is the only thing, that keeps your game afloat. Sometimes it’s an anchor, that continuously tries to drown your game. In Fallout 3 crafting is bad. It was a step into some direction, sure, but was it a good step, or a step, that made you fall flat on your face? We’re about to find out.

  • Shadow of Masterful Stealth
Here we go – Season 1 upon us already and what better way of sneakily starting the season 1 by dissecting the game that left me with the ambiguous state of loving its mechanics and hating the utilization of said mechanics – Styx: Master of Shadows. And we try to scrape everything we can from the stealth in the game, because it’s one of the better ones.

  • Loop the builder. Quest for the fun
Sometimes your game has everything but it’s not fun to play. Maybe – just maybe – you were missing something tiny and unimportant… like the most basic thing you have in any game available? And so that this doesn’t happen to anyone anymore, we’re about to have a talk about what is the game loop and how to deal with it.

  • Wake up, Samurai. We have a world to build
Creating the sufficient and believable world for the game is a hard work. As we can see it, it’s impossible task for some. But most of the time all you need is a basic human decency, empathy or just throw away everything and make a twitch shooter, where world should just be big enough for your player and their guns!

  • No backsies! Or maybe some backsies…
It’s a bit longer episode but i think it’s time to have this sorted out once and for all – we need to develop some characters. And It’s better to know how to do those kind of things, than to not. Let’s dive into the character development pool – where you’re free of character and where you’re not. And if you’re not, how do you want to make a character arc.

  • Making a protagonist is easy!
Let’s recap the last episode and dig deeper into the decisions you need to make to make your protagonist better and what do you need to learn about humans to make your character appeal to them. Also extra points for you if you know the person I was quoting in the name of the file (Though I changed a quote a little).
