Hej hej! Welcome back, honey bees! We talk for quite a bit about bts of social media at the beginning of this episode, so scrub through to around 20 minutes if you aren't interested.
Dr Kells Robertson puts on her Dr hat (it's a really silly one) to teach us about feminism and the main feminist theories that we need to know. She teaches us how feminism has been weaponised by women against each other and THAT'S WHAT THE MAN WANTS US TO DO!!!! Charlotte is a clever cookie, and Abbey is along for the ride.
Dr Peti Kenrick was the incredible lecturer who I took the Indigenous Research Methodologies paper with, and it is one of the best papers I have ever done in my life. If you ever get a chance to study under her, take the opportunity.
Drop us your favourite feminist theory in the comments 🤪🤪
We are feeling so weird about having social media followings at the moment, so help us by sharing the podcast so we can throw instagram away and only engage in long form, nuanced conversations?? HELP A SISTER OUT!!

Oh hi folks, once again it was Abbey's turn to research but then she didn't and we ended up giving you a different kind of episode. BUT, she gives you some insight as to why she didn't research with her life updates. Y'all are the first to hear it, she's a bit nervous to tell the world, so be nice.

Heeeey, how y'all doing! Are we back the weekend after fathers day to talk about our frustrations with the dads? Yeah, we certainly are. Look, we can't help how the cookie crumbles, it's just how it happened. Today Charlotte talks to us about a common critique she gets of her work and why she thinks it isn't valid. Meanwhile Abbey gets the conversation off track, as per.

Join hosts Abbey & Charlotte this week as we sit down together and have a vulnerable chat about our frustrations with being working mothers, and the roadblocks we've encountered trying to "have it all" (the way we are repeatedly told we can).
Apologies for the coughs and splutters, but there are only so many things we can edit around, and honestly the edit just sounds robotic if we end up taking every noise out of it.
We hope that this episode can bring anyone feeling the same some kind of comfort.
See you in two weeks, thanks for being here x

This episode of Dumb Smart Mums was kindly sponsored by Viva La Vulva. We could not be more grateful to VLV for sponsoring today's ep, but also for the amazing mahi and products they have! Both of our vulvas have benefitted from their beautiful products, so we stand by their range! If you or someone you know is about to have a pēpi, use code DSM at checkout for a cheeky discount! Thank you, VLV!
So, there's a big old announcement today eeeeep! But if you're just here for the cOnTeNt, then we crack into the episode at 33:16, so jump on forward.
We're back again and oops there are a few tech difficulties SOZ. We are a social worker/academic, unfortunately not tech whizzes. So editing Abbey tried her very best, but the sound towards the end of the ep is a bit funky. Aroha mai, but pls stick with us because the episode is a goodie. We know what the issue was, so it won't happen again!
Thank you so much for being here and listening, it's blowing our damn minds every time. xoxoxoxo

Well, well, well, look who dared to show their faces on the internet again for another episode. We were very nervous to share our opinions, so we thought what better way to do exposure therapy than tackling the 'breast is best' belief!
We're so grateful for all the love, and follows, and comments, and reviews, and kind messages we got after the first episode, and we are just so excited to see where DSM goes from here.
A huge shout out Dr Beth Shore who helped me with some of the biology details for this episode, go and check out her instagram here. She's the lady with non-judgemental, evidence-based lactation advice, and for that we are so grateful.
Also, a very big thank you to my colleagues who helped me gather my thoughts for this episode. I promised not to name you, but I am so grateful for your wisdom. And just so, so thrilled that your patients navigating the minefield that is infant feeding are being carried so beautifully by you guys.

Well.. Hi there. I (Abbey) have done a terrible job at keeping the communication up with the big changes happening on this feed. So, if you don't follow me on social media and you're like "where is WDYPLT? what the heck is this?" surprise!!!! WDYPLT is dead. RIP. She was loved and great for a time in my life, but turns out when I went back to my job talking to parents about their parenting all day, the last thing I wanted to do was come home and talk to parents about their parenting. WDYPLT is much-treasured in my life, and the episodes will forever live on this feed, but when the idea for Dumb Smart Mums started knocking around between Charlotte and I, I knew it was the right move for me to evolve the pod feed as my life has evolved. I know this is a shock for some people, but stick with me! DSM is gonna be good.
Charlotte kicks off our inaugural episode by teaching me about the huge impact that Celebrity Mums actually has on motherhood. Tangents include baby birkin bags, Kate Middleton being a benefits queen, and people really wanting us to regret having kids young. Buckle up, it's informative and goofy! Delivered piping hot to your ears!
If you like this pod, could you do us a favour and share it with like 500 of your closest friends? We are eagerly awaiting finding our audience (we know your out there), and we can't wait to find the listeners that get it. So, if that's you and you reckon you've got people who would also get it, whyyyy not send this to them!?

OH, we are so back! An honour to be back in this space for 2026, an even bigger honour for my first guest to be the gorgeous Kahurangi (Kahu) Carter (Ngāti Maniapoto, Tainui). Kahu is the Greens Party MP for Christchurch Central. Not only that, she is a mum of two. She had her first, Freddy (great name), and then 14 months later had Waiata! They are now 18 and 17. We cover so much in this episode, but we do get a lot into the nitty gritty of politics and how the current government is affecting the every day tangible difficulties that parents are facing. I am really proud of this platform, and being able to provide the opportunity for parents to hear who the parents are that are working hard to make this country better for us and our kids. Kahu is one of those people, and I hope you love this episode. You can find Kahu on instagram here and TikTok here.
