As I am getting older in life and life becomes more real, I am slowly understanding what the term adulting is and that as long as I am able I must do the things in life that others take for granted, as many neurotypicals can face the reality easier, it can sometimes be challenging for the autistic individual.

Being autistic, the brain can only think in finding comfort in the ways that we seek rigidity or regimented behavior because it is predictable and comes many times without distress or discomfort. It can also be hard to be receptive to other ideas, opinions or changes in the way life happens.

Sometimes when working on our wellness goals, it can be an all-or-nothing way of thinking, but it is important to realize that it takes all dimensions of one’s wellness to create a perfect balance in order to reach optimum wellness and sometimes not having a perfect balance can make your goals not come to fruition.

As one who has had years of seeing things in a negative manner, it can many times be hard to see past the negative of a situation and allow my heart to be receptive to understanding that there are many good things in my life, although negative energy seems to always be at the forefront. Being an autistic adult, you can have all coping skills at your disposal, but until your brain gets the signal to employ them, they are useless. The brain will continue in the negative state again and again until you deploy them to their benefit.
