She is also the founder and chairperson of human rights organization Progressive Voice. On March 28, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake killed at least 4,520 people and injured over 11,000, according to DVB data. Three months later, and over 6 million people remain in urgent need of assistance, as the existing crises of conflict and displacement worsens.

Members of Myanmar’s National League for Democracy (NLD) party, which was ousted from government in the 2021 military coup, have demanded the release of Aung San Suu Kyi on her 80th birthday. The NLD has been disbanded by the regime in Naypyidaw with its members either jailed, underground, or in exile.

It has been two months since a post-quake ceasefire was announced by the Brotherhood Alliance and the National Unity Government (NUG) in order to allow humanitarian assistance to reach those in need following a devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake. Only the Brotherhood Alliance extended the truce until May 31.

A ceasefire was also announced by the military regime April 2-30, which it then renewed from May 6-31. But DVB has documented 669 attacks carried out by regime forces since then with a total 544 killed and 1,148 injured from March 28 to May 28.
