The spiritual drunkenness (foolishness) we see in our nation today is a sign of God’s judgment! As a nation it is time to sober up, and realize our hope lies not in our Constitution, but in Christ, alone!

To many believers in the West today, who have not experienced severe persecution, Peter’s exhortation may start to sound like the safety instructions given to those sitting in the emergency exit row on a plane!

In the emergency row you must give a verbal yes, indicating you have heard and agree with the instructions. We may give a verbal amen to Peter’s exhortation within our text, but are we really listening to the instructions?

The instructions found in our text should be taken seriously, because the persecution and suffering of Christians, around the world today, is on the rise!
