This Boy’s Life (1993):
Based on the life of and book by Tobias Wolff, a single mother and her rebellious teenage son move to Seattle where she marries a man who turns out to be an abusive alcoholic. 

Parenthood (1989):
Four adult siblings attempt to raise their children in their different styles, navigating various parenting challenges and family dynamics.
