Dysfunctional Nerdcast: A Pop Culture Podcast

Hey Nerds, it's me Josh, open the door...I got the podcast!  

This episode is an in depth interview with Ben Goldsmith, a writer with Source Point Press.  We met Ben down at the Keystone Comic Con in Philly back in August and talked a bit about his books. 

I had the opportunity to talk to Ben a couple of weeks ago on the phone.  He's a funny, cool dude with a bright future ahead of him.  It was interesting, talking with him about his creative process and learning more about the books he started.  Ben is very open about his creativity and shared so much about that and more.

Learn what it is like to come up with an idea and see it through to a finished product.  If you have a thought, an idea, let this interview be a positive message for you to take that idea and make something of it. 

We hope to have Ben back on in a few months or so, see how he is doing and talk some more so he can experience the full dysfunction that is...Dysfunctional Nerdcast.

It's back to movie reviews, Nerds...with IT Chapter 2 !  What is it with clowns that freak people out?  Aren't they there to make us laugh?  Join us as we discuss and spoil the sequel the highest grossing "Horror" movie ever.  Was the length of the movie and issue for us?  should it have had an intermission?  We talk about the key moments in the film and what worked in the movie and what did not.

Welcome back Nerds!  It's a few days later or so and here is the promised part 2 of episode 45.  As we continue, you get Aaron's first hand account of yet another Monster Mania convention.  Of course it doesn't go exactly smooth, but was it better than the last two? 

That brings us to the main topic of discussion...KEYSTONE COMIC CON !!!  We are back with press coverage for the second year in a row.  Thank you Keystone Comic Con for the press passes.  We enjoy the show and had a great time talking to different people in the industry and people in the crowd.  Listen as we give a full in depth review of the whole thing. 

Aaron went to the Tom Holland panel and autograph session on Sunday at Keystone.  It was a great experience and a lot was learned about the future of Spider-man.  Get the real answers right here at DNC !

Hey Nerds! It's back to horror this round.  We go to Haddonfield and Camp Crystal Lake to sit around the fire and talk to Nick Mennell.  Nick played Bob Sims in Halloween (2007) and Mike in Friday the 13th (2009).  A Juilliard graduate and accomplished actor, Nick shares his stories with us about working on those movies, what they mean to him and what acting is all about. 

This is perhaps our most eye-opening, deep and meaningful interview we have done.  Nick openly shares his thoughts on acting, life, and the arts.  We hope you are going to take away more than you think when you listen to this episode.  There is no preaching or political talk here, just candid conversation that we strive for here at DNC.

Dear Nerds...you have been served!  Served a new episode of Dysfunctional Nerdcast that is.  We have a crazy story to tell you. This episode was supposed to be an awesome interview with someone but...there were some wild events that happened pretty quickly that prevented us from airing what was a really good interview with someone.  We think you would have been interested in what this person had to say and found it fun and exciting.  However, shall now be known as the episode that will never happen.

First up though, it has become the slow season for Nerd news.  SDCC has come and gone and we are all spent from the amount of news that came out this summer.  No movies have really come out and we are just waiting for the next flick of interest to review.

Our Spider Sense is going wild Nerds! There is a lot to talk about this time as we find out that The Walking Dead comic has all of a sudden ended! Stranger Things 3 dropped on July 4th.  Aaron spent his day off hunting for comics and toys while Josh sat at work in a cubicle.

We took a journey to Morristown, NJ for the Garden State Comic Fest.  Press passes courtesy of Dave O' Hare ( check out episode 38 for our interview with him ). We give the low down on how the show was and what how we made out there.  How many comic dealers were there?  How was the crowd?  Was there a Bath Fitter booth?  How diverse were the dealers?  We spent time talking to the vendors, artists and people wandering around.  Josh interviewed two independent comic book creators about their books and how they came about publishing them.  Thank you to Sam Quinton from Sinopa Publishing and Nicole D'Andria the writer/creator of "The Road Trip to Hell" for your time.

Give the power, I beg of you! Zup Nerds? We are back from a short hiatus to bring you a double feature spoiler filled review of two recent movies that came out.  Both are right up our alley.  Dark Phoenix came out to a dismal opening and poor reviews a few weeks ago.  Child's Play (2019) just came out with an updated modern spin on the 1988 classic.  Was Dark Phoenix really that bad?  Is Chucky just as menacing being an AI gone wrong, or was he better off possessed?  Listen as we hash these two flicks out and see if we can agree on these... or are we at odds again?

Of course we have to bring you up to date with some comic and toy news as well. The trailers for "3 from Hell" and Dr. Sleep dropped as well.  We have to discuss these as well as a surprise announcement from Blumhouse productions.

Kon'nichiwa Nerds! We have two spoiler reviews for you this time around.  Brightburn, the horror/superhero movie that had us intrigued for months.  Then we shift gears to the international monster fave, GODZILLA: King of the Monsters.  How different were our opinions on these movies?  Did they satisfy our need for new takes on classic stories?  Who reigned supreme here?
