This is an amazing interview with Laura Obando, a dyslexic woman who fought to put herself through college in order to teach other dyslexic kids. It’s a remarkable testimony of a woman who preserves a lifelong journey with genetic dyslexia. She believes it’s a gift. 

Her grandfather was dyslexic and she has two young kids she’s keeping her eye on to be sure they receive early intervention if needed. 

This is an interesting story about getting dyslexic kids ready for college if they elect to go. They need an assessment for dyslexia and then they will receive the accommodations needed to help them achieve success in college. Did you know dyslexic people do well in the Arts, Engineering, Architecture, and Entrepreneurism? Still many still want to be teachers, doctors, nurses, veterinarians, etc. These all require degrees so let’s learn how to help these kids achieve their dreams!

Teachers need to use the word Dyslexia! There is a special way to teach kiddos with dyslexia. Dyslexia Guidelines say it has to be structured, systematic, sequential, cumulative and must be direct and explicit teaching. It should develop comprehension and be emotionally sound. 

I created a reading program that follows the Science of Reading and we use music! Here I share some of the science behind the neuroscience of using music to teach reading.

Today I have a special guest named Greg Wood. He is an entrepreneur but also holds down a full-time job. He shares his story about being diagnosed with dyslexia very early on, being held back in first grade, and the support he received from his mom and teachers. Dyslexia – A Trait of Genius Forty percent of self-made millionaires in the United States are dyslexic. Thirty-five percent of entrepreneurs in the United States are dyslexic. Alexander Graham Bell, Steven Spielberg, Walt Disney, Henry Ford, and Leonardo Da Vinci all had Dyslexia. I am saddened when I see kids fail in school because of an empowering thing like reading because dyslexic children struggle with reading. I believe if an environment would embrace reading, we would open up a world of opportunity for dyslexic people.
