In 1 Timothy 4:7, God commands us to "train" ourselves for "godliness." It's something we must do to ourselves.

My brothers, becoming a godly man won’t just happen. You have to train yourself ... and training means you have to be intentional, you have to prioritize it, put forth effort, sacrifice, and remain committed … day after day … week after week … month after month … year after year ... decade after decade.

Yes, God is the One who is ultimately at work in us (Philippians 1:6). He is the One behind all of it making us more like Christ (aka = sanctification), but we have an active role to play in that process. Sanctification is a tag-team effort between us and God. If we sit back and do nothing, we will naturally drift away from godliness.

And when you begin to attain godliness, you have to maintain it, because whatever you attain, you must maintain … or it erodes! That's true for physical fitness and spiritual fitness ... whatever you attain, you must maintain ... or it erodes.

So how do we train ourselves for godliness?
