This week Fletch talks about the recent increase in applications for Smartphones that generate a significant amount of the E911 calls to Public Safety today, and how they may eliminate costs for PS-ALI for Enterprises, while providing explicit location information at no cost to the user.

On Friday Sept. 15, 2011, Judge Kim presiding over the California PUC initiatives for E911 issued a ruling requesting additinal informatoin from the carriers regarding monthly recurring charges for services that provide station level Caller ID to 911. The County of Orange claims 911 delivery over PRI could save them $30,000 annually over traditional legacy CAMA trunks.

NG911 is here and is actively being built in several areas. Enterprises, Carriers and PSAPs will soon establish connectivity that will allow PIDF-LO (i3 NG911 location information) to pass from the originator to the PSAP. Fletch talks to Bill Hughes, VP of Safety and Security at Telecommunications Systems (TCS) a NG911 network and database provider on the history of 911, E911 and NG911.
