Africa is joined by Professor Jannie Rossouw, Wits Business School (WBS) at the University of the Witwatersrand to talk about the inflation remaining at 5.9% for the month of April and what that means for consumers.
EWN reported that Stats South Africa said that it had remained unchanged from March and that the consumer price index (CPI) increased by 0.6% month-on-month. The main contributors to the inflation rate were food and non-alcoholic beverages, transport, housing and utilities.
The South African Reserve Bank is set to announce the latest interests’ rates later today and experts are saying that it's most likely to increase by 50 basis points this week.
