Your Mouth Matters

Early Movement Patterns: Foundations of Functional Health

Listen Later

This week on Your Mouth Matters, Dr. Rebecca Taylor is joined by movement expert Sonia Story and myofunctional therapist Lily Corley to talk about some of the ways in which early childhood movement patterns can profoundly affect kids' development and behavior.

Unintegrated primitive reflexes from infancy, Sonia explains, can lead to challenges with attention, sensory processing, and emotional regulation later than life. But this doesn’t mean you’re locked into that. Simple, natural movements can help “rewire” the nervous system at any age, she explains, sharing her personal journey of discovering these techniques while helping her own children - one hypersensitive, one hyperactive.

Lily adds valuable perspective both as a practitioner and as a parent who has benefitted from this approach.

This episode is especially valuable for parents, healthcare providers, and anyone interested in natural approaches to addressing ADHD, anxiety, sensory issues, and developmental challenges. It’s a conversation that offers hope for parents, revealing how targeted movement patterns can be a powerful tool for improving function and wellbeing.
