Hello Earthlings! Welcome aboard our proverbial spaceship to another Earthlings 2.0 rerun! This August, in the last month of summer, we have experienced Earth Overshoot Day – a time that marks when humanity’s demand for ecological resources and services in a given year surpasses what Earth can regenerate in that same time frame. To address the need for humanity to re-evaluate our actions towards climate change, today’s rerun features Dr. Aaron Thierry, who discusses the benefits and challenges involved in climate activism.
In this conversation, Aaron and Lisa Ann explore the multifaceted world of climate science, from the nuances of online advocacy to active, on-the-ground involvement and the crucial influence of science in shaping the planet's destiny with scientists stepping up to drive real change.
Aaron shares his insights on why this shift towards activism is essential, highlighting the obstacles he has encountered along the way. Together, Aaron and Lisa Ann navigate the intricate landscape of climate science, unraveling the complexities from virtual engagement to taking to the streets.
Finally, this week, our faith in humanity was restored by 11-year-old activist Kamea Ozane from Sulphur, Louisiana, or, unfortunately, better known as “Cancer Alley.” Kamea Ozane, along with her mother Roishetta, is raising awareness of the harmful health effects of living near fossil fuel plants. We commend Kamea, Roishetta, and all those who are fighting the good fight in reminding us of our ability to instigate change.
