Memorial Day is known as a day of remembrance—those who have given up their life so that others may live. We take communion with the same premise in mind. Paul's letter to Corinth helps us better understand the other ordinance that's a "have to" for his church.

1 Peter chapter 3 ends with one of the more difficult passages to understand in the New Testament. Does Peter teach that Jesus preached in Hell? Are we saved through baptism? Today, we begin a new study through 1 Peter. His letter addresses suffering through the lens of our identity. Some work for their identity, but as followers of Christ, we work from who we are in Christ. The difference is a matter of standing firm in true grace.

We've learned anything we believe or respect about Jesus from a group of antiheroes called the disciples. These followers gave their lives for a message of hope in death. Today, many claim something good about Jesus, but few claim the resurrected Christ because of what that means for the rest of their lives. If we are going to bank on anything about Jesus, why not the most important thing?
