We talk Italian Wine in this episode. In northwest Italy is the Piedmont region (Piemonte in Italian). The region is named after foot, “piè”, and mountain “monte” because the region is surrounded by the Alps. The region is very hilly with the Po River valley and home to some of the greatest wines in Italy. For wine lovers it is synonymous with Barolo and Barbaresco but there is other fantastic wines like Barbera, Dolcetto and, the relatively unknown varietal, Pelaverga. #ETDT #winelovers #italianwines

In our longest ep to date, we present "Natural Wines" There is a new word in wine to cover a new category in wine. Natural. To say this word is divisive is an understatement but it really is innocuous and just a marketing term to help these producers find a space in the wine world. And they are delicious but you have to try them for yourself since they aren’t like what you normally drink. There is an equivalent to the pushback. It would be if the majority of restaurants were angry because another restaurant said they were Farm To Table. It is just a tagline to say we buy from local farmers. Same for “Natural” which means they add nothing to the wines they produce. They farm either organically or biodynamically and when they crush the grapes they add nothing at all. No cultured yeasts and no sulfites. They allow the wine to take its time to ferment and then they bottle. Pretty simple.  Go find some Natural wine and try it. #ETDT #winelovers #naturalwines

Today’s episode we talk about wines that most people have forgotten about. Port (from Portugal) and Sherry (from SW Spain) are both Fortified Wines that I would guess a lot of listeners have never tried. We hope to fix that today because these wines have a place at our dinner tables and cocktail hours. To oversimplify the word “Fortified” means a "spirit” has been added to stop fermentation. These wines are 17% ABV to 20% ABV and are so distinct they have to be enjoyed to understand why these wines are so special. #ETDT #Winelovers #Port #Sherry

And this is probably the first French wine most people are introduced to. We actually will go up river in our discussion. The Loire Valley follows the Loire River for roughly 250 miles and 69 AOC’s this could be the most diverse wine region (river) in the world. We talk about well known grapes like Sauvignon Blanc in Pouilly Fume and Sancerre along side Cabernet Franc in Anjou and Chinon plus Chenin Blanc in Anjou and Jasnieres and Melon de Bourgogne in Muscadet.
