From Sydney originally, a gravure printer by trade James Walker worked at Anzpac in Australia) then moving to work internationally in South East Asia, for the last ten years. Five years in Ho Chi Minh City working for a printing company, before joining the paperboard industry.

Joining Metsa Board, as a Technical Service Manager for the past four years is based in Singapore and manages Asia Pacific market, working with customers to assist them in all their technical needs.

The priority is to ensure Metsa Group’s high-performance Folding Box Boards are meeting and exceeding their high expectations along with achieving great running efficiencies through printing, converting and filling line processes. Further to this, James is the “Sustainability Ambassador” for this region, helping to promote and explain what “Sustainability” means in terms of Metsä Board and how sustainability can benefit customers.

James is a member of the Australian Institute of Packaging and currently studying a Diploma of Packaging technology through them.

His experience includes driving system changes to deliver sustainability, product stewardship and corporate reputation outcomes in Australia, New Zealand, Asia, and the US. Prior to joining APCO in August 2022, Chris led strategic and transformational change in environmental sustainability across leading retailers Kmart and Target where his remit included climate change, product stewardship, circular economy, packaging, plastic, and waste.

He has also spent time in the packaging and utilities industries and government. As APCO’s CEO, Chris leads the development and execution of strategies that bring business, governments, and industry together to design, use, recover, reuse and recycle packaging to improve waste, climate, water, material, chemical and social impacts.

Rowena Curlewis co-found Denomination Design with Margaret Nolan, Creative Director, 20 years ago. Sustainability looms large on the agenda at Denomination, its sustainability team has developed a program called 'Futureproof' which aims to lead the sustainability conversation in the drinks industry.

The Brand Power lady has made the transition into “Sustainable Sally” — a fierce and trusted advocate for the sustainability movement within Australia, driving conversations in boardrooms, on stages, and podcasts, empowering industries to act. “Working within the circular economy is as much a mindset as it is an objective and, like any major transformation exercise, it requires stakeholders at every level to be part of the vision and work towards its implementation.” shared Sally.

Sally now works closely with an expanding range of B2B and B2C clients—in the sustainable sector—as presenter/spokesperson, ambassador and moderator covering recycling, FMCG, packaging, waste management, construction, renewables to name a few.

Notably Martogg announced their partnership with Sally as a leading sustainability advocate. This partnership is a combined effort to promote Martogg’s Australian Made range of recycled polymers. Sally has recently launched “Choice for Life” a media/advertising content platform available to brands who are making a dedicated contribution to sustainability with their products and services.

Daryl Thompson is an Industrial Designer and Packaging design specialist with over 30 year’s—award-winning—industry experience. He’s a packaging consultant, member of the Australian Institute of Packaging, and formerly the Society of Plastics Engineers (whilst in the UK). His employment career has included senior roles in Packaging design, innovation, and technical sales across:

• International Manufacturers
• Design Agencies (including Monash - Food Innovation Centre and Outerspace Design)
• Local FMCG retail at KOKO BLACK.

He has won multiple awards across many categories, notably including the IOM3 Starpack awards, two 'Packaging Stars' and a 'Technical Innovation' award for a multi material thermoformed leak-resistant packaging system.

The fusion of creative and technical expertise that Daryl brings has been described by others in the industry to be as “rare as a Unicorn”.

Insight into educating consumers with APCO’s link to the preptool, what it does and the connection with Australasian Recycling Label (ARL). Understanding the system and highlighting the Sustainable Packaging Guidelines.

Anthony Peyton is the founder and Director of PREP Design and GreenChip. He has worked as a sustainability adviser for over 3O years and set up GreenChip 20 years ago.

Greenchip helps businesses with APCO reporting, carbon accounting and manufacturing best practice. Together with Planet Ark, GreenChip helped create the Australasian Recycling Label having already built the PREP tool as the standard evaluation for the ARL. This lead to the formation of PREP Design.

Anthony is passionate about making a positive difference, at scale, to some of our most complex environmental challenges and so has already set up PREP in the UK and Singapore, with plenty more markets on his radar.

Collaboration is a critical factor in creating a circular economy and PREP provides the framework for these conversations to be centralised.  PREP Design offers unique design solutions for brand owners and packaging designers. The company’s PREP software simulates consumer packaging's journey, once discarded for recycling at kerbside, and is the only tool providing immediate feedback to designers advising why packaging is not recyclable. PREP has been adopted as a national standard assessment methodology in Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom & Singapore to underpin the nations' on-pack recycling labels.
