In this episode, Eda shares her story briefly and provides you with tips on how to grow your legal career.
Tip number one: Stop! I want you to stop and take a breath. Think of what you want and how you want to do it. Know that this is just a season and that you are not the season you’re in. Know that you are enough and that you have the skills needed to do what it is you desire. Stop the excuses and create obstacles for yourself. Stop overworking yourself for someone else’s dream without receiving the validation, compensation, or accreditation you deserve.
Tip number two: Know! Know your limits, know your skill level, know your worth, but most importantly, know your boundaries. Know you do not have to work late just because they decided to bring you in at the last minute. Change that narrative by asking them to bring you in earlier and offering them your knowledge and understanding of how to do that by creating templates and processes that work for everyone on the team. You have so much information that management needs they just don't know. They don't know you have it and they don't know that they need it. Know that by having strategy meetings instead of “regular” meetings everyone’s job just got a lot easier. This brings me to my next tip…
Tip number three: Learn! Learn the process if there is any from start to finish. Learn who does what where and when at the office. Learn the skills you need to improve and better your career. Whether that's management skills, process development, time management, drafting, writing, legal research, or whatever that looks like for you. Learn the software of the company to its full capacity. This will help you and your career. This all adds value and best of all this all transfers. Transfer skills translate. Meaning you can take the skills you acquire throughout your career and implement them anywhere you go.
