Professor Steve Clarke from Charles Sturt University’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences is a philosopher specialising in issues related to conscientious objection.

He recently co-authored a paper on the obligations of parents who object on religious, moral or philosophical grounds to vaccinating their children.

Education Review spoke with professor Clarke about those obligations and other issues relating to conscientious objection.

Last year Anne Colreavy, former principal of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Primary School, located in Sydney’s south, implemented a sunglasses for her students.

Under the policy, parents were encouraged to purchase category three sunglasses for their child but it wasn’t mandatory. At the same time, parents were educated about eye protection via meetings and the school newsletter.

But before Colreavy implemented the policy, she made sure her staff were on board with the idea.
