    Teri A. McMurtry-Chubb is Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Development and Professor of Law at the University of Illinois, Chicago Law School. Professor McMurtry-Chubb previously taught at a number of institutions, including the University of Iowa, Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, California State Polytechnic, Drake University School of Law, and Fairhaven College, where she was the co-founder and first director of Fairhaven's Center for Law, Diversity, and Justice, the first interdisciplinary full-time residential pipeline program in the country. Dean McMurtry-Chubb is a prominent critical-race-and-gender scholar who is the architect of UIC Law's 1L Antiracism Curriculum Project, and now directs the Law Schools' new, first of its kind,  JD Concentration in Critical Race & Gender Studies, programs she discusses at length in this podcast episode. Dean McMurtry-Chubb shares the impetus for, and the resultant work, in creating a comprehensive guide for integrating DEI into the core law curriculum. Her new book, Strategies & Techniques for Integrating DEI into the Core Law Curriculum: A Comprehensive Guide to DEI Pedagogy, Court Planning, and Classroom Practice, is available for free from Wolters Kluwer Legal Education. Dean McMurtry-Chubb explains why law schools need to think broadly when integrating DEI, challenging systemic barriers and traditional pedagogy in an effort to avoid complicity in inequity in legal education.

    Learn more about Charles Rose, III, and his path to leadership of Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law, following an active duty career in the U.S. Army. He retired from the Judge Advocate General's Corps before joining Stetson University College of Law's faculty, leading their Trial Advocacy Program, which maintained a first-place ranking for 12 years in a row. The "Godfather of Advocacy," as those in the field call him, brought his leadership and training experience to his work at ONU, where they proudly and intentionally train lawyers who focus on taking care of people. Dean Rose is a prolific author in trial advocacy, evidence, criminal procedure and military law, and has the most fun when he is in the classroom teaching students. That enthusiasm will spread to Iceland this summer as ONU hosts a comparative advocacy training program. Dean Rose shares his pride over ONU students who responded to the tragic deaths of George Floyd and Brionna Taylor by creating the Civil Rights Law Journal, which debuted this fall. He closes with predictions of what is in store for legal education in the coming decade.

Dean Scott tells us about the significant population of First-Generation students at California Western, which is in the top 10 for diversity in the country, and the importance to her to be at a school that is committed to diversity. Dean Scott shares her hopes for the future and how the law should respond to the political injustice built-in technology.

These innovations helped inspire the Future Law Project at Pittsburgh School of Law, interdisciplinary research, scholarship, collaborations, and convening initiative which serves as a forum for leadership conversations about ongoing transformations in the future of law as a field of expertise and information, and as a source and expression of social order and law as political, economic, and cultural infrastructure, again, amid massive changes to economic, technological, and geographic conditions. Professor Madison concludes by sharing his thoughts about the evolving role of lawyers that will complement the future of legal automation.

    Brian Cuban, a Dallas-based attorney, author, addiction recovery advocate, and younger brother of Dallas Mavericks owner and entrepreneur Mark Cuban, discusses his recovery since 2007 from alcohol, cocaine, and bulimia. Brian has written three books, and during this episode, shares the experiences that inspired each of them. The first explored his decades of living with and recovering from eating disorders, entitled Shattered Image: My Triumph Over Body Dysmorphic Disorder. The second, The Addicted Lawyer, Tales of The Bar, Booze, Blow & Redemption, identifies the addiction and mental health issues that destroyed his successful legal career, and during the podcast, he shares the destructive nature of addiction and the rock-bottom circumstances which led to the start of his journey of recovery. Brian's experiences with addiction, Body Dysmorphic Disorder, and hard-fought recovery are revealed candidly, and the often-shocking stories make his resilience and recovery even more compelling. Brian shares these stories nationally through personal appearances, his books, and numerous columns in national media outlets in order to encourage students, attorneys, and others facing similar challenges to seek help and start recovery. Brian gives advice to current law students, and encourages all of us to look out for one another using an inquiry that starts by asking "Are you ok?" Brian's first legal thriller, The Ambulance Chaser, will be published in December 2021.

He advises applicants to consider student experiences, related services, and outcomes from particular law schools in order to determine their best "fit," information that is included in The Princeton Review rankings. Chad explains the reasons he believes the LSAT will continue to be the primary method of evaluating incoming law students, and concludes with additional predictions regarding the future of legal education.

She describes initial steps to incorporate leadership development into the curriculum for all students, through the required Professional Responsibility course, and how leadership is approached as a mindset, not the result of title or hierarchy. Dean Barton recounts the origin of Duquesne, the only Catholic Spiritan institution in the world, one that was originally created to educate immigrants. Dean Barton explains that the future of Duquesne School of Law is focused on the three pillars of interdisciplinary learning, leadership development, and community well-being. New programs developed under these pillars include a 9 credit business micro-credential, a 1 credit financial toolkit course, and hi-flex opportunities for learning. Topics discussed when considering the future of legal education involved belonging, DEI, and improving access to legal education for those currently underrepresented.
