Performance tasks have been a part of education for over 30 years. In today’s classrooms, creating time for students to turn off technology and work collaboratively to transfer their mathematical knowledge to solve rich, real-world tasks may be more important than ever.
Asking students to apply their mathematical knowledge and develop their problem-solving skills to solve tasks using their own strategies and prior knowledge is shown to be highly engaging for students and powerfully effective in developing flexible, long-term abilities with mathematics. Students also need opportunities to intentionally develop additional 21st-century skills of communication, creativity, and critical thinking. These skills must be practiced if we expect students to enter the world prepared to solve the challenges of the 21st century.
Yet teachers and administrators have been slow to embrace these highly effective tools for learning. Why? With 40 years of experience leading this conversation, Jay McTighe is uniquely positioned to address these topics and to provide practical solutions for schools and districts.
Join us for a unique conversation with the world’s foremost leader in performance tasks. This discussion dives into the why’s and how’s for successfully bringing performance tasks to your schools.

Is technology a barrier to learning in your district? We need to talk! For some, the problem of mobile devices is so severe that states and districts are banning cell phones from schools entirely. In some districts, the use of artificial intelligence tools has been banned, and websites blocked. Apple Watches are now banned in some districts, and the use of browsers on tablets and computers is “locked down” to prevent exploration outside of specific curriculum topics.
In this research-driven, provocative edWeb podcast, moderator Kevin Baird, Chairman at the Global Center for College & Career Readiness, leads listeners through best practices and engages attendees in discussion and debate.
A survey accompanying the edLeader Panel will be used as part of a national research study, published with a major university. All respondents who participate in the National Best Practices Survey – Device Management in Public K-12 Spaces will receive the research and will be invited to the research briefing when completed.
We know we have to do better—for our students. Engagement, distraction-free learning, and safe but cutting-edge technology integration are more essential now than ever before, while we balance the expectations of parents and communities. How do we provide “freedom within a framework”? We need your input, and national education leadership needs to hear your voice. Join us and help lead the conversation as new technology impacts our classrooms daily.

Educators are constantly being asked to do more with less. And because they are resourceful, talented, and invested, they meet those expectations, often to their own detriment. Our best and brightest continue showing up each day, but they bear the cost over time. Eventually, everything breaks down if asked to run at 125% all the time.
As we face a sustained teacher shortage, how can school and district leaders dismantle burnout culture and provide educators with the support they need to be successful in this profession long term? Listen to this edWeb podcast to learn from experts on this topic.
