TikTok, YouTube, and video games that are typically thought of as strictly “fun” can unlock incredible learning value when we approach them the right way. Traditional summer reading lists have proven to be an uphill battle for many educators and parents. Kids have developed a very high bar for the kinds of content that they find engaging. TikTok, YouTube, and video games are designed to grab (and hold) children’s attention, and managing screen time is at the forefront for many parents.
In this edWeb podcast, the presenters share how educators can teach parents to leverage these captivating channels that kids already love to further comprehension development in a way that comes naturally. Educators leave with tangible resources chock-full of innovative strategies including curated media options across these channels, sample questions to initiate comprehension discussions at home, and an upbeat, energized approach to what summer learning can look like.

On May 10th, Speak Up Day for America’s Teachers, Project Tomorrow shares a clarion call to action with school leaders. Teachers are confronted with a complex range of issues daily leading to an increase in dissatisfaction and disillusionment with the profession. Media attention often focuses on the low level of teacher compensation, but we know the issues impacting teachers are far more complex and wide ranging.
Here is your opportunity to suspend your assumptions, get the data needed to make effective decisions, and take the necessary action to improve your teachers’ experiences. In this edWeb podcast, we highlight the following:
The Speak Up Research Initiative is the largest collection of authentic stakeholder voices on key educational issues. The project surveys students, teachers, parents, and administrators each year to understand how they view their educational experiences. Speak Up surveys remain open until May 13th—so don’t delay. There is still time to participate.

In the last two years, tutoring has emerged as an important tool in a superintendent’s kit to help students make up for lost instructional time. What has also emerged is the ability of tutoring to support the teaching profession and tackle turnover rates. Increasingly, districts are creatively using tutoring services to ease the burden on educators and empower them with an extra set of hands.
Listen to this edWeb podcast to hear from education experts and district leaders on how tutoring does not just help students catch up, but supports the heart and soul of schools: teachers. This event showcases how district leaders from Orange Public Schools in New Jersey are innovatively leveraging tutoring services to alleviate the workload on teachers while supporting students with standards-aligned personalized instruction during the school day.

Periods of transition can have a huge impact on student success—and not just academically. When moving from school to school, whether that’s from elementary to middle school, middle school to high school, or between school districts, there are significant challenges in keeping students on track. The effect is evident in the data: more students fail ninth grade than any other (Cohen & Smerdon, 2009) and students experiencing homelessness are 87% more likely to drop out of school than their stably housed peers.
Transition planning as part of your MTSS can provide achievable plans, interventions, and measurable data to identify and track student progress toward success. Listen to district leaders for this edWeb podcast where they share:
