Bringing play into the school day isn’t just important for young learners but is also beneficial to older students. Play brings out creativity, facilitates the exploration of interests, and engages students in activities of their choice without academic pressures. “NavTime” is a structured activity time that provides students with the ability to play, have fun in a mentored space, and explore their individual interests while building relationships.
In this edWeb podcast, you learn how your school can create this opportunity for students (and teachers) to bring joy into their day. Dr. Derek Fialkiewicz, Principal, and Heidi Carr, Teacher, both from Clark County School District in Nevada, share:

In this edWeb podcast, Dr. L. Robert Furman takes us on a journey to uncover what the modern learner needs and supplies us with an 18-week “Future-Ready Challenge” to help systematically transform our classrooms into the digital-age environments they so desperately need. For educators and school leaders interested in improving student outcomes, accept the challenge.

Student engagement is fundamental to learning. Ask any K-12 school administrator in the United States which subgroups show the most modest academic gains, and their answer is remarkably consistent: special populations, particularly, English learners (ELs) and ESE learners/students with special needs. Despite significant financial investment made by U.S. school districts, “moving the needle” for these learners remains stubbornly elusive. Yet great attention is paid by state legislatures to seek, discover and implement successful strategies for these worthy learners.
Which strategies meaningfully engage EL students and bridge content and language? What approaches to learning bring relevance and cultural connection to ELs? Given the variety of learning disabilities and processing challenges, how do schools position the most appropriate strategies and support to our ESE learners and students with special needs and their teachers? Listen to this edWeb podcast with school leaders from diverse regions of the U.S. as they share candid and concrete strategies of engagement with all participants.

The needs of students and families are greater than ever before. Significant gaps in learning from the pandemic have been well documented across communities, districts, and states.
Despite schools and districts employing a host of programs and initiatives to meet this range of student needs–from academics, to social-emotional learning, to attendance, to family engagement–these efforts are often uncoordinated and viewed as independent from one another.
Listen to this edWeb podcast with distinguished experts who explore and provide recommendations on how attendance, academics, social-emotional learning, and family-engagement initiatives should be understood as a holistic system. Panelists highlight the strong relationships between social and emotional learning and student well-being with positive attendance patterns and discuss how these factors set the necessary foundation for academic engagement and achievement. They provide insights on how proactive and multimodal family engagement underpins the success of any district effort and share best practices for building meaningful connections with families.
Listeners are guided on how to consider the strengths and challenges of their current school and district programs, how to build from strengths to align efforts, and how these programs directly impact literacy, mathematical fluency, and overall academic achievement in an environment that supports overall student development for lifelong success.

Over the past two years, K–12 education institutions have increasingly looked to digital content and e-learning technologies to meet their ever-evolving education needs and goals. When effectively implemented, technology-based products, services, and resources can have a very positive impact on education as well as improve efficiency and outcomes in teaching, learning, and classroom and school management. And yet, as reliance on technology tools for learning and school operations grows and users become more sophisticated in implementing technology tools, gaps in the integration and interfaces among different applications can still pose problems and challenges.
In this edWeb podcast, school leaders share successful policies, strategies, and training solutions to help districts assure the interoperability of their academic and operational systems.
This edWeb podcast is of high value to superintendents, preK-12 school and district leaders, aspiring school leaders, chief technology officers, and other information technology education leaders.

School districts nationwide have both the challenge and the opportunity to decide on how they want to constructively reengage with their community stakeholders, while moving away from the vitriol and divisiveness—for the sake of their students and their districts—to conjure and co-design a better future for both. Established research shows that crowd-based innovation, also known as crowdsourcing, can play a key role in helping organizations and communities—including school districts—support and cultivate creative, constructive, and results-driven engagement with their stakeholders.
In this edWeb podcast, listeners learn how the science of effective community engagement and inclusion can lead to the cultivation of more synthesized, agile, resilient school communities through the elevation and purposeful synthesis of stakeholder voice. Critical byproducts of the process include trust, transparency, and empowerment. Research-supported best practices in crowd-based innovation have led to uncommonly creative solutions and innovation, documented outcomes that occur when stakeholders—some of which have been disenfranchised and unengaged previously—are provided the opportunity to participate meaningfully and be heard in a structured way with parameters.
Crowd-based innovation is being used in schools and communities across the country, via a variety of compelling use cases, including strategic planning, mental and emotional health, student initiatives, COVID-19 recovery and planning, and deployment of ESSER funding.
