Dr Shane and Dr Ailie sprint back into the studio for the first action packed show of the year. They kick off with some strange science news on the vitamin B3 deficiency effect on hamster population, AI detection of skin cancer, NASA study of twin astronauts and the Doomsday Clock update.

First guests: Mitchell Nothling, Particulate Fluids Processing Centre, University of Melbourne discusses research designing new enzyme mimics inspired by nature and employing the mechanism of natural enzymes for industrial application as synthetic catalysts.

Second guest: Clare Weeden, WEHI, discusses her research into lung damage and how stem cells repair our lungs as they constantly breathe in contaminants from air pollution to cigarette smoke and the possible causes of lung cancer.

Third guest: Professor Patrick Humbert, La Trobe Institute for Molecular Science, discusses cancer research into prevention therapeutics to help tumours to reorganise themselves, thereby stopping the cancer's growth and spread.

  • Einstein A Go-Go - 4 December 2016

Dr Shane, Dr Lauren, Dr Ailie and Dr Ray bring you the week's hot science, including concrete absorbing carbon dioxide, climate change links to storms that produce multiple tornadoes, printable temporary tattoos to measure sun exposure, and confirmation of new elements.

They speak to Professor Michael Bell, Chair in Tropical Agronomy, School of Agriculture and Food Sciences, about the upcoming International Nitrogen Initiative conference and problems with the use of nitrogen in agriculture.

They interview Professor Sue Heinzel, Ph.D. President, Australasian Society for Immunology, and Dr. Lynn Corcoran from the Immunology Division, Walter and Eliza Hall Institute for Medical Research, about their discovery that two internal 'clocks' control the immune cells enlisted to fight infection. This discovery, published today in Nature Immunology, upends previous theories on how immune responses are regulated.

Finally, they chat with Rebecca Mitchell, Land Management Extension Officer with the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources in the Government of Victoria, about World Soil Day.

    Einstein A Go Go - 27th November 2016

Prof. Lawrence, Dr Krystal, Dr Lauren & Dr Shane

First Guest: Professor Richard Shine The University Of Sydney. ""Teacher toad technology"" and condition taste aversion. Northern Australia's peak predators-snakes and lizards-are more likely to survive the cane-toad invasion thanks to the work of Professor Richard Shine.

Second guest: Prof. Lawrence Krauss School of Earth and Space Exploration at Arizona State University, and director of its Origins Project. Prof. Lawrence M. Krauss is an internationally known theoretical physicist with wide research interests, including the interface between elementary particle physics and cosmology, where his studies include the early universe, the nature of dark matter, general relativity and neutrino astrophysics. He has investigated questions ranging from the nature of exploding stars to issues of the origin of all mass in the universe.

Third guest: Laura Mackay Doherty Institute. Winner - Young Tall Poppy Award winner 2016. Infections are generally acquired though barrier tissues such as the skin, gut and lungs. Combating infection at the earliest stages, whilst pathogens are still localised to these body surfaces represents the best opportunity for successful immune intervention and disease prevention.

  • Einstein A Go-Go - 20 November 2016

Dr Shane is joined in the studio with fellow EAGG colleagues Dr Ailie and Dr Jeff.

The team share brief science news on subjects like Autism and recent weather news in the Arctic, but the majority of the show is spent with two very special guests.

Firstly we have an interview with NASA Astronaut Colonel Terry Vertz who has spent over 200+ days in space as he recounts how he got involved in the space game, tributes to Leonard Nimoy as well as news on why is in Australia and what's happening in 2016 in terms of space exploration.

After this the team are joined in the studio by Associate Professor Ed Hawkins (Department of Meteorology at the University of Reading, UK) who has become somewhat of a science celebrity in recent times since his development of the 'Spiral' which simply explains the progress and effects of climate change. Along with this development, Professor Hawkins shares updates regarding the subject, as well as delving into the history of Climate change, when did we first begin studying this phenomenon?
