Joining Dr Shane, Dr Ray, Dr Lauren and Chris KP In the studio this week is Dr Jason Dutton, Senior Lecturer in Chemistry at the La Trobe Institute for Molecular Science at La Trobe University, about his work that will help lead to more practical use of Hydrogen as a fuel. The team also discuss minimal synthetic cells, nanotechnology for self-cleaning clothes, a fish (cryptotora) that walks like land vertibrates do, and new insights into how the brain processes fear.
Dr Shane and Peter Aylward (president of the Space Association of Australia, Inc) interview NASA Astronaut Captain Gene Cernan, ahead of his visit to Australia and screenings of the movie about his story, "Last Man on the Moon".

In the studio this week are Dr Shane, Dr Krystel, Dr Chromo and Dr Ailie.News:Sexing dinosaurs, North Carolina State University have managed to identify the medullary bone in a T. rex. Breast feeding shamers. Science journalism wrap for Time Magazine, after an article on the science of the correlation between depression and foods with a high glycemic index. Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS) have discovered the largest structure within the Universe call the BOSS Great Wall. A physics study at North Carolina State are studying the fluids in which things (birds, fish, sperm) work together to move in one direction. February had the warmest global temperature anomaly on record of 1.35 degrees C.First guests (in the studio) - Dr Rebecca Lim and Associate Professor Tim Moss from the Hudson Institute for Medical Research at Monash talk about using cells from a baby's placenta to help heal conditions, such as lung damage in premature babies.Second Guest (in the studio) - Dr Andrew King, Climate Scientist from the University of Melbourne talks about what climate change humans are actually influencing.Program page: http://www.rrr.org.au/program/einstein-a-go-go/Facebook page: Einstein A Go GoTwitter: https://twitter.com/einstein_agogo
Dr Shane is joined in the studio with colleagues Dr Euan, Dr Jen and Chris KP.
Tonight on the show the team are joined by two of heavy hitters in current world science. One an expert on String Theory and another that has been awarded over 28 honorary doctorates.
First Guest - Dr Brian Green; Professor of Physics at Columbia University.
The team and Dr Green discuss Einstein's theory of relativity and the possibilities around string theory. Dr Green is visiting Australia currently and speaking at shows around the country including some upcoming shows at Melbourne Park.
Second Guest - Dr David Suzuki; Award winning national broadcaster, science communicator and geneticist. (pre recorded interview)
The esteemed Dr David Suzuki discusses (among other things) his new book 'Letters to my grandchildren', living life in the 'Death Zone', genetic modification, global warming and the future of our species.
The team then update the RRR listeners with some news.
Dr Jen kicks the team off talking the continual develop and growth of our Brains.
Dr Euan switches the topic back to the Environment, our current situation and some good news on how we can potentially fix our issue with the disposal of P.E.Ts.
Chris KP discusses news from the egg industry. In local news there is research happening in Geelong, in distinguishing the sex of a chicken whilst still in the egg resulting in potentially a lot of saved male chickens.

In the studio this week are Dr Shane, Dr Lauren and Dr Ray with a very busy program.News:Scott Kelly is back from the international space station (he was there 340 days), leading into some interesting twin studies. Studies showed that racoons (on an island in British Columbia - where there are no known predators left) who when played the sounds of wolves and cougars, stopped their voracious foraging. A study in Huazhong, China has concluded the human had is evidence of a Creator, which has generated much controversy especially for PLOS ONE.First guest (in the studio): Sarah Dash from the Innovation in Mental and Physical Health and Clinical Treatment (IMPACT) Strategic Research Centre who talks about the connection of diet and mental health.Second guests (in the studio): Dr Caroline Le and Dr Erica Sloan, from Monash University's Institute of Pharmceutical Sciences who talk about how chronic stress builds lymphatic 'highways' that provide cancer cells with a faster and more efficient way to spread. The final guest (in the studio): Marilyn Anderson, La Trobe University who talks about plant anti-fungal molecules for treatment of fungal diseases in humans, and how to use plants to produce them.Program page: http://www.rrr.org.au/program/einstein-a-go-go/Facebook page: Einstein A Go GoTwitter: https://twitter.com/einstein_agogo
Dr Shane, Dr Krystal and Dr Ray dive straight in with a record six studio guests.Guest 1: Donna Stolzenberg, Director of the Melbourne Homeless CollectiveSpeaking about the Melbourne Period Project raising public awareness about homelessness and menstruation management. Guests 2 and 3: Dr Frank Muscara and Dr Meredith Rayner, Child Neuropsychologists from the Murdoch Children's Research InstituteTake a Breath program being trialled at RCH. It is a program for parents with very sick children to help them minimise the impact of the illness on their own mental health and wellbeing. Research has found that parents suffer significant mental health issues (depression, anxiety, PTSD), and that this has been shown to impact on family functioning. This is a program based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and has been well received by parents and so far is giving us good results. Guests 4 and 5: Prof. Sandra Kentish and Dr Greg Martin from the University of Melbourne's School of EngineeringChemical and Biomolecular Engineers have discovered a new way to deliver carbon dioxide to microalgae, which in turn, can be harvested to make renewable fuels such as biodiesel.Guest 6: Alistair Evans from Monash UniversityPredicting human evolution - Monash University-led research has shown that the evolution of human teeth is much simpler than previously thought, and that we can predict the sizes of teeth missing from human fossils and those of our extinct close relatives (hominins). A new study published today in the journal Nature, confirms that molars, including wisdom teeth, do follow the sizes predicted by what is called 'the inhibitory cascade' - a rule that shows how the size of one tooth affects the size of the tooth next to it.
Einstein A Go Go - 21st February 2015
Dr Lauren, Dr Ray, Dr Shane
News Items: nature inspired robotics, early warning earthquake systems, exercise stimulating immune system against cancer.
First guest: Peter Aylward, President, Space Association Australia. More info here
Second Guest: Peter Crouch, PhD NHMRC R.D. Wright Fellow, School of Biomedical Sciences, University of Melbourne
"Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is the most common form of motor neuron disease (MND). It is an adult-onset disease in which nerve cells that relay signals between the brain and muscles progressively deteriorate. Initial symptoms are as innocuous as weakness in a hand or slurred speech, but inevitably the symptoms rapidly and relentlessly escalate: people with ALS become paralysed, lose the ability to breathe, speak and swallow, and due to the absence of an effective treatment most will die within 3 years of diagnosis." More info here
Third Guest: Alicia Oschlack, Murdoch Children's Research Institute.
"My work in Bioinformatics focuses on the analysis of DNA sequencing data. New technologies that have become available since 2007 have allowed us to sequence DNA at a rate unimaginable at the turn of the century." More info here
