Does this cycle sound familiar to you?
The mind has been on over drive all day, from the moment the eyes opened, non stop.
Processing. Reacting. Planning. Analysing.
While the body has been keeping up. Carrying the pace. Holding the tension. Running on whatever fuel you gave it this morning and pushing through on what is left.
And now something is flagging. The energy is dropping. The focus is fading. The body is sending a signal that it needs to rest.
And the mind that can’t stop reaches for the fix.
A coffee to push through the afternoon. A sugar hit to lift the energy.A painkiller to silence the nag.
And then when the day is done.
A glass of wine to wind down.A scroll online to numb the feeling that something is off.A sleeping tablet because the mind is still running at midnight.
And then up again the next morning. The same cycle. Rinse and Repeat.
The body depleted. The signal buried. The pattern continuing.
And when the body starts to request you to slow down, you do the quick fix to get it moving again. Patch it up. Keep going. Keep the mind running.
This is the norm. Everyone around you is doing the same thing.
The coffee culture. The supplement culture. The push through culture.
The “I will rest when this is over” culture.
And it is always continuing, always prolonging, onto the next thing. And the body keeps paying the price.
The body was designed to operate in balance.
The body has its own intelligence. Its own rhythm. Its own alert signals.
Fatigue is an alert. Tension is an alert. An ache is an alert.
These alerts are designed to warn you the body is operating close to its limits.
The shallow breath, the tight jaw, the disrupted sleep, the afternoon crash, the feeling of being constantly drained. All of it is the body communicating clearly, consistently, and accurately.
Slow down. Rest. Let me recover.
And every quick fix overrides that signal. Every coffee says keep going. Every scroll says distract me. Every painkiller says be silent. Every sleeping tablet says I will decide when you rest.
The body asks to stop. The mind says keep going. And the fix is always in service of the mind’s agenda. And the body is expected to keep up. This is the pattern that denies natural wellbeing.
The body was designed to operate with a balanced cycle of effort followed by recovery. The balance has been lost. Too much effort. Too little recovery. Too much activity. Too little ease. For too long.
And the cost is cumulative. The immune system suppressed. The repair systems offline. The nervous system locked in activation. The body carrying the toll of every overridden signal, every skipped rest, every pushed through day.
The quick fix was a bandaid. And the bandaid allowed the mind to keep running the pattern that was causing the damage all along.
And then you start searching online
There comes a point where the quick fixes stop being enough.
The coffee stops lifting the energy the way it used to. The fatigue has settled into something deeper than a tired afternoon. The body is speaking louder now. And the old fixes are losing their effect.
This is where the search to feel better begins.
The programme. The supplement stack. The practitioner. The protocol. The app to track your stats. The morning routine. The cleanse. The retreat. The course. The book. The podcast.
And the search feels like progress. It feels like you are finally taking your wellbeing seriously. You are investing in yourself. You are doing the right thing.
And yet the direction of the search is still outward. And the mind is still leading it.
You are researching on a screen. Comparing options on a screen. Purchasing on a screen. Consuming content on a screen. Adding another layer of mental activity to a mind that was already overstimulated.
And here is what is missed in this moment. The search itself is part of the pattern. The body needs you to stop. And you respond by doing more. The mind needs the body to keep going. So the mind looks for advanced results. Something extra that would restore the body just enough to maintain the pace.
The body is asking for balance. The mind is searching for a product.
Autopilot drives consumer consumption
And most of this searching happens on autopilot.
The scroll through the wellness content. The click on the promotion. The purchase of the supplement. The sign up for the programme. All of it driven by the same unconscious pattern that drives the rest of the day.
You are consuming your way toward wellbeing the same way you consume everything else. Automatically. Reactively. Led by whatever arrives in the feed, the inbox, the algorithm.
The latest buzz pulls you in. The fad arrives and everyone around you is doing it, so you follow. The promotion hooks you with a promise. The influencer shows you their morning routine and the mind says that is what you are missing. The new product launches and the packaging says exactly what you want to hear.
And because you are on autopilot, the discernment is absent. The pause is absent. The check in with the body does not happen.
The question of “is this what my body needs?” doesn’t even cross your mind.
When you are absent from the body, you absorb whatever arrives. The pattern of consumption runs unchecked. And every purchase, every programme, every new protocol adds another layer between you and the wellbeing that was already here.
Awareness is the only thing that breaks this cycle. The moment you are present, the moment you are in the body, the hook loses its grip. Because you are in relationship with the body. And the body already knows the answer. The body is the expert on its own wellbeing.
There is a distinction the culture has blurred
When you are unwell, when something in the body has moved beyond its capacity to restore itself, then you look outside for a cure. A doctor. A treatment. A medicine.
When the body has broken down beyonds its natural repair then it needs help. This is when wellbeing has already been denied.
Wellbeing is the state the body maintains when it is allowed to function in its natural rhythm.
It is the immune system doing its work. The nervous system cycling between activation and rest. The body repairing overnight what the day has used.
The breath regulating the heart. The hormones cycling in rhythm. The digestive system processing and absorbing. Every system, every cycle, every rhythm working together.
This is what the body does when it is given space. It maintains your wellbeing. This is what it is designed to do.
And the culture has blurred these two completely.
It has taken the model of being unwell, where you look outside yourself for the fix, and applied it to wellbeing. And now wellbeing looks like healthcare.
Something to diagnose. Something to treat. Something to buy.
But wellbeing is a natural state maintained by the intelligence of the body itself. This maintenance is prevented when the mind overrules the intelligence and hijacks the natural rhythm.
The overstimulated mind demands a pace that is too much for the body to sustain. Too much stress. Too little rest.Rinse and repeat
The balance overridden for too long.
Wellbeing has become something you purchase.
Subscriptions, memberships, programmes, apps, wearables, supplements, powders, drops, devices and products.
There are products for your sleep, stress, energy, focus, gut, hormones and mood.
All created to help you discover what you didn’t know you needed. By someone who found something that helped and wanted to share it.
And yet the structure changes the nature of what is being offered.
A commercial structure needs you to believe you are missing out on something.
Steps. Levels. Upgrades.
One more thing and then you will be well.
The moment wellbeing becomes something to sell, it becomes something you are lacking.
And the moment you believe you are lacking it, you are back in the cycle. Searching. Consuming. Adding more.
While the body is asking for less. Wellbeing is what is here when the sense of missing falls away.
The pattern of reaching outward needs to stop.
The body needs sleep. You buy a sleep tracker and spend the last hour of the day on a screen analysing how you slept the night before.
The body needs stillness. So you download a meditation app and add ten minutes of guided practice to an already packed morning.
The body needs movement. So you sign up for a class, buy the gear, book the slot, and add another commitment to the calendar.
The body needs sunlight. You order vitamin D from your phone while sitting indoors.
The body needs nourishment. You research the optimal meal plan, buy the supplements, follow the protocol.
The body aches to be heard. You Google your symptoms and read five articles about what might be wrong.
The body needs you to slow down. You design a morning routine with twelve steps before 7am and feel like a failure when you skip one.
The body is asking you to feel what is here. You open an app to tell you how you are doing.
The body is asking you to return to yourself. You add another programme to the list.
Every example is the same pattern. The body asks for something simple. And you reach for something external. Something purchased. Something complex. Something the mind has to manage.
And this pattern runs deep because it was set long before you started searching for wellbeing. From the very beginning you were taught that answers come from outside.
From the teacher. From the expert. From the product.
Looking inward was not promoted as an option.
So when the body speaks, the instinct is to search outward. Because that is way you have always known.
It’s time to recognise your body is its own expert.
The body is the most intricate design in the world.
The immune system, the nervous system, the cellular system, the cardiovascular system, the respiratory system, the musculoskeletal system, the digestive system, the endocrine system, the lymphatic system, all doing its work to keep your body functioning.
Every system. Every rhythm. Every cycle.
Functioning to maintain the body in a natural state of wellbeing.
Your body is the expert on its own wellbeing. It has always been the expert. It knows when to activate and when to rest. It knows what it needs in every moment. It knows when the balance has been lost and exactly what is required to restore it.
And every time you ignore the body and hand that authority to a product, a brand, a fad, a promotion, a programme, you risk interfering with the natural functioning of a body already well designed.
Every time you ignore a signal, to rest, to relax, to play, to hydrate, to nourish, to sleep, to switch off from the external world, you interfere with the body’s natural rhythms.
The body is not designed for over stimulation and under restoration.
Trust your body’s expertise before giving your authority away
This is what the culture has trained you to do. To look outward for permission. For guidance. For the answer. For the next step.
And the wellbeing space is full of voices telling you what your body needs. The influencer with the morning routine. The brand with the supplement. The programme with the protocol. The latest buzz that promises this is it.
And every one of these voices, however well intentioned, is asking you to trust them over your own body.
Feel the difference.
When you see the promotion and the mind says I need that, pause. Bring the attention into the body. Ask: is this what my body is asking for? Or is this the mind reaching again?
When the fad arrives and everyone around you is doing it, pause. Check in. Feel what is here. Does the body resonate with this? Or is this on autopilot following the crowd?
When the latest wellness trend shows up in the feed and the hook pulls you in, pause. Ask the body and see how it responds.
This is discernment. And it is only available when you are present. When you are in the body. When you are aware.
On autopilot, the hook lands. The fad pulls you in. The promotion converts you. Because the mind is searching and anything that promises the answer gets through.
In present moment awareness, you feel the truth of what is here. The body tells you what it needs. And you understand in real time your authority resides inside you. In the body. In the breath. In the present moment.
And in that moment you reclaim it, the search ends.
The greater intelligence is already guiding you
When you return to the body and trust its knowing, something deeper opens.
The intelligence that operates the functioning of the body becomes accessible. The same intelligence that runs through the entire fabric of existence.
And when you check in with the intelligence of the body, when you ask “what does my body need now” and listen for the answer, you are opening a doorway to the greater intelligence of existence.
The breath is the gateway into awareness. And awareness, fully present in the body, connects you to something far greater than the individual mind.
This is where the real guidance lives.
The felt sense that arrives in the body instantly. The knowing that tells you this is right or this is off. The clarity that comes through the body before the mind has formed a word.
This is the authority that can’t be outsourced.
The body is the expert. The breath is the doorway. And the greater intelligence is already guiding you from within.
Wellbeing requires us to pay attention to the present moment.
Wellbeing is what is already here when you stop overriding the body’s natural rhythm.
The constant mental activation. The relentless pace. The endless pressure to do more. The over stimulation. The searching for a quick fix.
When the body returns to its natural state a restoration kicks in. The repair systems come back online.
The nervous system settles. The tension releases. The immune system reactivates.
And what is here, in this natural state, is wellbeing.
This is the balanced cycle the body was always designed to run.
Activation followed by rest.Effort followed by recovery. Stress followed by ease.
The natural rhythm, restored.
Wellbeing was always the default.
You were searching for something you already had. The search itself was the detour.
Guided practice to connect with the expertise of the body.
You can do this wherever you are right now. Give yourself a few minutes to stop whatever you had been doing and find a place to be where you won’t be disturbed.
Let your self arrive here.
There is no where else you need to be right now, nothing to do in this moment except be present.
Close you eyes if this feels comfortable, or lower your gaze to relax your eyes.
Begin by noticing what’s on the mind. What thoughts has it been running away with? The list. The plan. The worry. The search for the next thing.
The thing you saw online that you are still thinking about buying.
The programme you are wondering about starting.
Just notice. You are simply becoming aware of how much the mind has been carrying. And how much of it is directed outward.
And now let the attention drop from the mind into the body.
Feel the contact between you and whatever is holding you. The chair. The ground. The surface beneath you.
Settle into that awareness of being held.
And take one slow conscious breath. A deep inhale through the nose. Feel the air entering the nostrils. Feel the ribcage widen. Feel the belly expand.
And a long slow exhale through the mouth. Sign it out. Let it be audible. Let the shoulders drop. Let the jaw soften. Let the hands go heavy.
And ask yourself.
“What does my body need right now?”.
Listen. Feel what is here. Whatever the body is carrying in this moment.
The tiredness. The tension. The holding. Just feel it. Just acknowledge it.
The body has been telling you this all day. And right now, you are listening.
And notice how the body answers when you are listening.
Honestly. Clearly. Specifically.
The body knows what it needs. And the moment you ask, it answers
Take another conscious breath cycle.
And ask again. What do I need right now?
Listen again. The body knows the answer. It is here. Simple. Specific. True.
Maybe it’s rest. Maybe it’s fresh air. Maybe it’s a glass of water. Maybe it’s a yawn. Maybe it’s a stretch.
Whatever it is listen and receive the answer.
Let the body know you will honour what it needs.
Feel the settling. Feel the body responding to your attention. Feel the shift that happens when the mind stops overriding and the body is given authority to do what it is designed to do.
This is the balance being restored. This is the body doing what it has always known how to do.
This is wellbeing. Already here. Already in the body. Already in the breath.
You were carrying it the whole time. And the body was waiting for you to ask.
Repeat silently:
This is the return to my natural wellbeing.
This is the return to myself.
Repeat
This is the return to my natural wellbeing.
This is the return to myself.
Return here as often as you need. The body will tell you when it is enough.
And when you are ready, bring your awareness gently back to your surroundings. Feel the room around you.
And carry this practice with you. The next time the mind reaches for the fix, the product, the search, pause. Take one breath. And ask the body first.
The body already knows. It is always here. Waiting for you to listen.
On Reflection
Your body is the expert on its own wellbeing.
Allow it to be what it was designed for.
A balanced system.
Effort followed by recovery. Activity followed by rest. Stress followed by ease.
Overriding the balance was the malfunction.
The external search to feel better was the detour.
The products, the fads, the promotions, the programmes, the fixes, none of them superior to the body’s own expert intelligence.
Every outsourced add on was another step away from the wellbeing that was already here when you return to the expertise of the body.
A conscious breath brings you back. One moment of listening changes the pattern. The return to the body permits the rest.
This is natural wellbeing. This is the return to yourself.
