"Our nation continues to be struck by the horrific acts of police brutality. Yet, our eyes remain shut to recognizing police brutality and the excessive use of force that has haunted black and brown communities as part of a systemic issue within the United States.
Join us on Saturday, February 18, at 1 p.m. MST for a conversation on Police Accountability, Transparency, and Oversight led by the BNHR Police Accountability Task Force. Since its inception, the ATF has dedicated itself to bringing police accountability, transparency, and oversight by calling on the City of El Paso to take immediate action and create an independent oversight accountability commission by city ordinance.
We must progress into a community policing structure where community stakeholders can investigate complaints, assess policies and practices, review officer training, and make recommendations for improvements within our local police departments. We demand the same for every community in the country that similarly struggles with increased violence, especially within the law enforcement entities that should bring safety and order to our families."
