Romans 12:1-2

We long for something real. We live in a world and in a time that is so focused on our external appearance, our external performance, and what we can do to compare and compete for the approval of others. We have idolized the approval of our peers. 

But what if you were made to not just live a life focused on the external things of this world but what’s eternal, what lasts beyond the here and now?

Because here’s the reality, fake focuses on temporary, fake focuses on what’s external, but lives of meaning and significance and purpose focus and live for what is eternal above all else.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 “…he has put eternity into man’s heart…”

In every human soul is a God-given awareness that there is “something more” than this transient world. 

You were made for more than just the here and now. You were made to live a life that matters in eternity. So how do we focus on the eternal in a world of external pursuits?

Let's look in Matthew 6:25-34 to see what Jesus has to say:

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

27 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? 28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 

30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 

31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. 34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

So what is love? What is real love? What is true love? How do I know if someone is really the one? Is there really, a one? Do you really just, know when you know? And how do I stay in love? And what do I do if I feel like I am falling out of love? What if the one I love doesn’t love me back? What if love has grown cold? What if the sparks no longer fly? And is it really better to have loved and lost then to have never loved at all?

1 Cor. 13:4a - Love is patient and kind. 

Fake love looks perfect. Real love is committed to the process.

Fake love looks wild and free. Real love is intentional and grows in time. 

1 Cor. 13:4b - …it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud

1 Corinthians 13:5a

Love does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking,

1 Corinthians 13:5b 

Love is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs

1 Corinthians 13:6

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth

1 Corinthians 13:7

Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

1 Corinthians 13:8

Psalm 127:3-4

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord,
 the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one's youth. Blessed is the man
 who fills his quiver with them!

Parenting is a lot of work but I want you to know the Bible says having kids is a blessing. But sometimes blessing’s can be confused with burdens because they are both heavy. Parenting is heavy because God is a father, and He has the heart of a mother, and that imagery which your kids see in you is going to be projected on God. Your kids will get to an accurate picture of God because of you or they will have to get there in great difficulty, in spite of you…

We need to be in the business of raising kids like arrows. To be sent out! To push darkness back! To storm the gates of hell! To make some noise!

The bible says kids are Arrows, arrows are weapons and we are at war. 

This is the most, seat belted, air bagged, peanut avoiding, gluten free, sun screen lathering, massively medicated, password protected, inoculated generation in history. Where are the arrows? There is no greater weapon then the next generation. So how do we raise kids to be arrows? 

To overcome and not be overcome? To win the war and not become victims of it?

Proverbs 22:6: Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.

Genesis 1:26-27

Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. 12 “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything. 13 “Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food”—and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14 God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power. 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! 16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, “The two will become one flesh.” 17 But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. 18 Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
