Elevate City Church

What if Jesus wants to lead you thru the very thing that you have been conditioned to avoid?

Why don’t we invite people to come & see?

Because we’ve been taught to avoid it. Our culture is increasingly conditioning us to keep Jesus to ourselves.

Can we have more faith about what God might do than we have fear about what might go wrong if we share Jesus with someone?

Tune in to this powerful message from Pastor Joey McLaughlin on how to invite people to come and experience Jesus no matter the circumstance.

John 4 -- The Samaritan Woman.

John 4:5-8                                                                                                                              So he came to a town of Samaria called Sychar, near the field that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 6 Jacob's well was there; so Jesus, wearied as he was from his journey, was sitting beside the well. It was about the sixth hour. 7 A woman from Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.” 8 (For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.)

You and I are the marketing department for Christianity.

YOU AND I ARE ADVERTISING PLAN A AND THERE IS NO PLAN B.

If you didn’t know you had a job in this Jesus business, now you do, welcome to orientation!

Those who have tasted and seen how good Jesus is invite people to come and do the same.

Brought people, bring people, found people, find people, saved people, serve people.

Make no mistake, it’s Gods job to save, its our job to invite people to come & see.

The recipe of the Christian revolution is ordinary men and women who invite others to Come & See.

We are not trying to build a community where you just come and get, we are trying to build a community where you realize you’ve been commissioned by Jesus to help other people, come and see.

John 1:38 Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them, “What are you seeking?” And they said to him, “Rabbi” (which means Teacher), “where are you staying?” 39 He said to them, “Come and you will see.”

John 1:46 Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?”Philip said to him, “Come and see.”

The reason this book doesn’t end in chapter 3 is because the chase isn’t over. God did not give up on Jonah and He has not given up on you.

God is after Jonah's heart.

Did you know that God is after your heart today?

God wants more than religious action, he wants to transform your intentions. He wants to change your insides. Give you new desires. And a new heart.

How far will God run after runaways? All the way to the cross.

Jonah chapter 4.

Do you ever wish that you could just have a rewrite on your story? Do you ever wish that God would just give you a second chance to start over again? In Jonah chapter 3 we see that Jonah gets a second chance from God to rewrite the story that he seemed to mess up. Jonah puts the pen into the hands of God and what God writes is so much more amazing than anything Jonah could of done on his own.

God gives Jonah a second chance and that second chance changes everything.

Jonah 3:3 "So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, three days' journey in breadth."

Jonah 3:4 Jonah began to go into the city, going a day's journey. And he called out, “Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!”

Jonah 3:5 And the people of Nineveh believed God. They called for a fast and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least of them.

Jonah 3:10 When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil way, God relented of the disaster that he had said he would do to them, and he did not do it.

Luke 11:32 "The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and now one greater than Jonah is here."

Mark 1:14-15 "Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”

What do you do when you find yourself in over your head? What's your response when you find yourself in a seemingly impossible situation?

Jonah finds himself in the belly of a whale and what does he do first? He prays to the Lord His God.

Jonah 2:1

"Then Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from the belly of the fish…"

Prayer is always the right response of a runaway.

Prayer is surrender.

Prayer can pump the brakes on your inclination to run.

It's hard to run from God when you've learned to fall on your knees.

We need to learn to pray from the belly of whatever whale we find ourselves in today.

What is God’s relationship with people who run from Him?

How does God respond and to what extent is He willing to go to chase after runaways?

There is no clearer picture of how God responds to runaways then the one we find in the book of Jonah.

Don't miss this powerful message from Pastor Joey McLaughlin on the God Who Chases After Runaways.

Jonah Chapter 1

Jonah 1:3

"But Jonah rose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to Joppa and found a ship going to Tarshish. So he paid the fare and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish, away from the presence of the Lord."

Anxiety is the most predominant form of mental illness in our country, plaguing both young and old, showing up as post-traumatic stress syndrome, obsessive compulsive disorder, even phobias and generalized anxiety disorder.

It can be as simple as feeling nervous & overwhelmed or as intense as having physical reactions like shaking, increased heart rate, shortness of breath, sweating, and crippling fear.

Culturally, we are a nervous wreck, and no one is immune to it.

Studies show that 86% of people consider themselves worriers.

People on average say they spend 1 hour and 50 minutes a day worrying.

That adds up to 13 hours a week

28 days a year

6 years of our life...worrying.

But what if you could be anxious for nothing?

John 10:10-11

"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.  I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep."

Galatians 5:1

"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free."

Philippians 4:4

"Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice."

Philippians 4:5

"Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand;"

Philippians 4:6

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God."

Philippians 4:7

"And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Philippians 4:8-9

"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9 What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you."

Do you struggle to understand how to hear from God?

Do you know what it's like to hear His voice?

How do you know if God is speaking to you?

If we won’t tune in to hear God’s voice then we will be sheep who do not know the joy it is to know the voice of our shepherd.

Tune in to see three ways that the Shepherd gives you to hear his voice.

God’s Word, God's People, and God’s Spirit.

Don't miss this powerful message from Elevate City's Community Pastor, Thomas Cheeseman on how we can hear the VOICE OF GOD in our everyday.

You and I are like sheep who are in need of a shepherd.

We need to be led, no matter who we are, we need someone to lead us on this journey of life.

Don't miss this message from Pastor Joe Baker on Psalm 23 and The Shepherd That You Need.

Psalm 23:

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.

He restores my soul.He leads me in paths of righteousnessfor his name's sake.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;you anoint my head with oil;my cup overflows.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow meall the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

How do we keep our eyes on the Shepherd?

How in the world, in modern day 2022, with Pandemics and riots and economics and tik-toks do we do this Jesus following thing?

Digital technology continues to push the pace of life faster and faster. Ideas of beauty and success and happiness are increasingly informed by social media. The last 2 years have taken life as we know it and flipped it on its head. We have been driven into isolation, fear, confusion. All the chaos and noise that surrounds us has produced worry and fear within us and it’s got a lot of us asking the question how do I make it out alive!? How do any of us make it out alive!? How do I get through this thing called life and not loose my soul?

And we're here to tell you…You keep your eyes on the Shepherd.

Don't miss this powerful message from Pastor Joey on An Anxious Generation and how to keep our Eyes on the Shepherd.

John 10:14-16

14 I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice.
