This story is a picture of the great marriage supper of the Lamb, the great culmination of eternal bliss for all those who know Christ. We the bride of Christ are united eternally with our bridegroom. The One who gave His life a ransom for many.
Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. (Revelation 19:7–8)
The invitation is delivered through “the Gospel”. The Good News that Christ died for our sins, was buried and rose again.
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: (1 Corinthians 15:3–4)
The RSVP to this great banquet put on by God Himself is sent when one puts their faith and trust in this finished work.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)
But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel: (2 Timothy 1:10)
Our Master has confirmed that He has gone to get everything ready for this great feast. He is preparing the menu, choosing the place settings, organising the music, and finalising all the accommodations. Everything is going to be perfect.
In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. (John 14:2)
And at any moment the final invitation to this great banquet will come, and all those who RSVP’d will be caught up to be part of this great supper.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. (John 14:3)
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. (1 Thessalonians 4:16–17)
We who have already RSVP’d and are going to be part of this great feast are told to spread the news, hit share on the Facebook event, pass it along. There is the party of parties coming up and the world is invited, and we do not well to keep this divine invitation to ourselves.
Many return the invitation with their regrets, with excuses of life, or maybes, yet the Master calls His servants to continue to deliver the invitation to all who will listen. He says, “Go, and compel them to come to this momentous occasion”.
