61-STORY MIXED-USE TOWER ENVISIONED ON KENYAN COAST
If those behind the project can make it happen, the 61-story, 370-m-tall Palm Exotjca tower will be built in the tiny beachfront town of Watamu on Kenya's Indian Ocean coast, The Exchange reports. The structure would house 180 serviced apartments with balconies boasting views of the ocean and tropical landscape. It would also have a casino, nightclub, convention center, theater, restaurants, a hotel and other amenities. Behind the project are veterinarian and neurosurgeon Dr. Guiseppe Moscarino and Oliver Nepomuceno, president of Swiss investment company Crystal Business S.A. Italian architect Lorenzo Pagnini is behind the design, distinguished by striking gray and black glass bands and a landscaped, rooftop helipad.

  • Larry Silverstein Talks About Current Projects
Welcome to the Elevator World News Podcast. This week’s news podcast is sponsored by elevatorbooks.com: http://www.elevatorbooks.com
    SILVERSTEIN TALKS ABOUT CURRENT PROJECTS
In an interview with New York YIMBY, Larry Silverstein discussed Silverstein Properties’ upcoming projects in New York City, including the World Trade Center’s (WTC) last remaining office supertall, to be built at 200 Greenwich Street. He said that 2 WTC, as it is called, should be complete by 2025 and may still resemble the Norman Foster design, which was unveiled in 2007, though an anchor tenant is yet to be found. He also said the scope of the company’s current work is expanding into Journal Square, Queens and residential high-rise rental housing, with nearly 3,000 rental units on the way. He added that the impending demolition of the Union Carbide Building at 270 Park Avenue in Midtown East (making way for a 70-story, 2.5-million-sq.-ft. tower to serve as the new JPMorgan Chase headquarters) is “a terrific step forward.”

  • Hudson Yards’ Second-Tallest Building Nears Completion
Welcome to the Elevator World News Podcast. This week’s news podcast is sponsored by elevatorbooks.com: http://www.elevatorbooks.com
HUDSON YARDS’ SECOND-TALLEST BUILDING NEARS COMPLETION
The 92-story, 1,009-ft.-tall 35 Hudson Yards, the second-tallest building in the Hudson Yards development in New York City, is headed toward a 2019 completion, with new renderings that reveal stunning residential interiors by Tony Ingrao, New York YIMBY reports. Skidmore Owings & Merrill (SOM) designed the structure, part of Hudson Yards — at US$25 billion the largest private-property real estate development in the U.S. The building topped out in June. In September, the limestone and curtain-wall façade had reached to a few stories beneath the parapet. It will contain 143 condominiums, an Equinox hotel and ground-level retail within more than 1 million sq. ft. Related Cos. and Oxford Property Group are the developers.
