  • Hudson Yards’ Second-Tallest Building Nears Completion
Welcome to the Elevator World News Podcast. This week’s news podcast is sponsored by elevatorbooks.com: http://www.elevatorbooks.com
HUDSON YARDS’ SECOND-TALLEST BUILDING NEARS COMPLETION
The 92-story, 1,009-ft.-tall 35 Hudson Yards, the second-tallest building in the Hudson Yards development in New York City, is headed toward a 2019 completion, with new renderings that reveal stunning residential interiors by Tony Ingrao, New York YIMBY reports. Skidmore Owings & Merrill (SOM) designed the structure, part of Hudson Yards — at US$25 billion the largest private-property real estate development in the U.S. The building topped out in June. In September, the limestone and curtain-wall façade had reached to a few stories beneath the parapet. It will contain 143 condominiums, an Equinox hotel and ground-level retail within more than 1 million sq. ft. Related Cos. and Oxford Property Group are the developers.

Welcome to the Elevator World News Podcast. This week’s news podcast is sponsored by elevatorbooks.com: http://www.elevatorbooks.com
THYSSENKRUPP TAPPED FOR MAJOR SYDNEY METRO PROJECT
thyssenkrupp has been selected for what a New South Wales government official is calling an unprecedented accessibility project that involves designing, suppling, installing and maintaining 70 elevators and 130 escalators for the Sydney Metro, Mirage News reports. The AUD87-million (US$61.9-million) project is "the biggest one-off investment in improving accessibility in the history of public transport in this country," Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance said. Set to open in mid 2019, the city's north-west extension involves new lifts and escalators for the six railway stations; lifts and escalators to provide access from the underground Central Station to Central Walk; and escalators from a new underground Central Walk concourse to two Central Station platforms. Eleven stations between Sydenham and Bankstown will be getting new elevators as well.

  • Supertall “Terracotta Masterpiece” Almost Complete in NYC
Welcome to the Elevator World News Podcast. This week’s news podcast is sponsored by elevatorbooks.com: http://www.elevatorbooks.com
SUPERTALL “TERRACOTTA MASTERPIECE” ALMOST COMPLETE IN NYC
111 West 57th Street, described by New York YIMBY as a “new terracotta masterpiece” in a part of Midtown New York City (NYC) that has come to be known as Billionaire’s Row, is nearly 70% complete, pushing past the 984-ft. supertall threshold toward an ultimate height of 1,428 ft. SHoP Architects designed the skinny structure, which includes the historic Steinway Building at the base and features a light blue curtain wall along the northern and southern façades and bronze and terracotta over the west and east ones that maximize light interaction with the sun. Developers JDS Development and Property Markets Group anticipate completion by 2019, with occupancy of 60 condominiums starting shortly thereafter.
62-STORY APARTMENT TOWER FOR WESTERN END OF CANARY WHARF
Newfoundland, a 62-story skyscraper housing 636 apartments, retail and amenities, is set to open in December on the western end of Canary Wharf in London, The Telegram reports. According Canary Wharf Group, a joint venture of Brookfield Property Partners and Qatar Investment Authority, the tower provides a counterbalance to the primarily office landscape, with architecture by Horden Cherry Lee befitting its prominent spot on the skyline. Residents will have easy access to public transit, and enjoy city views through floor-to-ceiling windows. A Canary Wharf Group spokeswoman shared that, despite the U.K.'s and Canary Wharf's close ties to Canada, the tower's name is from a car park the developer was surprised to find out it owned, making it "new found land."
DALLAS DEVELOPER SEEKS OK FOR MIXED-USE HIGH RISE
A 2.5-acre site in Dallas once earmarked for an office skyscraper may yet see a high rise if a developer can receive approval from city officials for a mixed-use tower, DallasNews.com reports. The site was a parcel within Cityplace, a development launched in the 1980s that included twin, 42-story office towers, but only one of them was built before a market downturn hobbled further development. It's at the site of the second tower that Cityplace Co. hopes to build a mixed-use tower that would include office and hotel space, but it must first secure approval to build a structure larger than zoning allows. No details about the height of the proposed building were reported.
