Eli Roth’s 2007 sequel may be known as a feminist version of his notorious and groundbreaking film Hostel, but its most memorable scene is pulled from a centuries old true crime story. The cinematic Mrs. Bathory (Monika Malácová) may occupy a single scene, but does the real life inspiration for this bloodthirsty character inform other aspects of Roth’s disturbing story?
