《盘古开天辟地》是中国最有名的创世神话，最早记载于三国时期徐整的《三五历纪》，流传了约一千八百年，讲的是古人想象中世界最开始的样子。"盘古抡起大斧劈开天地"是后世民间流传的画面，最早的古书里其实并没有这把斧头——本集采用的是小朋友们最熟悉的民间版本。
很久很久以前，整个世界就像一个巨大巨大的鸡蛋，里面黑乎乎的，什么都混在一起。大蛋里睡着一位巨人，名叫盘古，这一觉足足睡了一万八千年！醒来后，"咔嚓——！轰隆隆——！"他把大蛋劈开了：轻轻的东西往上飘，变成了天；重重的东西往下沉，变成了地。可是盘古又担心天和地会重新合上，就头顶着天、脚踩着地，像一根大柱子一样撑呀撑呀，又撑了一万八千年……最后，他的左眼、右眼、呼吸和头发，都变成了什么呢？

"Pangu Creates the World" (盘古开天辟地, pán gǔ kāi tiān pì dì) is China's most famous creation myth. It was first written down about 1,800 years ago, in a book called *Sanwu Liji* (《三五历纪》). It tells how people in ancient China imagined the very beginning of the world. One little note: the giant axe in this episode comes from later folk retellings — the earliest book does not mention an axe.
Long, long ago, the world was like one giant egg — dark inside, with everything mixed together. In the egg slept a giant named Pangu. He slept for eighteen thousand years! When he woke up — CRACK! BOOM! — he split the egg open. The light parts floated up and became the sky. The heavy parts sank down and became the earth. But Pangu was worried: what if the sky and the earth closed up again? So he stood between them like a big pillar — his head pushing up the sky, his feet standing on the ground — for another eighteen thousand years... In the end, what did his eyes, his breath, and his hair turn into?
