Today we are discussing the issue of managing donations. This is also known as the second disaster. Steve Major with Coordin8 (C8) shares his idea of developing an app that allows direct donations to the people impacted by the disaster. Steve sees this as a transparent way for people to crowdsource the recovery effort.

One of the areas that we need to harden is our critical infrastructure. This includes the power grid, cybersecurity and more. Today we are talking to Thomas Popik one of the nations top experts on critical infrastructure resilience. This conversation comes at a time when tensions in the world are high, including a nuclear threat from both Iran and North Korea.

When I was interviewing Danial Aldrich about the disaster resultant communities, he mentioned Boulder Colorado and the BOCO Strong program. I had to learn more. So I reached out to the program and Tiernan Doyle called me back. I am so happy that I got to meet Tiernan and learn about the great work that she is doing in Boulder and how the whole community has come together. Boulder Colorado Strong or BOCO Strong at they call it is an outstanding model program that we all should be looking at.

In EP 61 we discuss three types of disasters and how people are making money off the suffering of others. A war, an environmental disaster, and a natural disaster, all have one thing in common, the fight to keep their culture and identity in the recovery phase.

I think that our role as emergency managers becomes even more important during recovery. We can really have a major impact on recovery just by embracing the ideas of a resilient community.
