Emo Kids Anonymous episodes
- 125. Mitchell Jay: Thoughts on Bowling, Vocal Coach of the (emo) Stars, Social Media Singing Sensation | Emo Kids Anonymous
Welcome to EKA 125! Today we are joined by Mitchell Jay aka Mitchell Kinn aka Mr. Yummy himself. When Berkeley from Thoughts on Bowling came on our show a few months ago and hinted at the identify of their new singer I went full tinfoil hat, so when they announced Mitchell as the new vocalist I knew we had to get him on the show to learn more. We dive into how he became the new frontman for one of emo's hottest new bands as well as the wild and weirdly theatrical road he took to get there. As a vocal coach who works with the singers of some of your favorite bands like Arm's Length and Hot Mulligan, Mitchell is an expert at the instrument that is the human voice and he was nice enough to give us a little lesson on how to sing like Patrick Stump. Straight up, this might have been Amanda's favorite moment on the show, it was magical. I'm very excited to see what the future holds for Thoughts on Bowling with Mitchell on the mic because if there performance at Burn Bright is any indication, they're about to hit a whole new level. See you fellas next month in Pomona!

1 hr 12 min - 124. Primrose: The Black Eyed Peas of Emo Talk TRSH, TikTok and Their Favorite New England Emo Bands | Emo Kids Anonymous
Welcome to EKA124! Today we are joined by Cam, Gardner and Will from Primrose, an emo band from Maine (not to be confused with an emo band called The Maine, who they had a strong message for!). The fellas took us through the history of Primrose, from Cam and Gardner recording the record in their pandemic pod with two mics, to expanding the band, to recording Sad In The Northeast! We talk about The Office, Drinking Out of Cups, and what The Maine have to do to rightfully claim the state. Who is the president of emo? who fills up their cabinet? We uhh, weirdly took a stab at this and I think we did okay? Go stream Primrose's newest single Pissing Contest (i'm losing) on all your favorite platforms or whatever.

1 hr 8 min - 123. Tequila Mockingbird: Michigan DIY and The Making of LP1 | Emo Kids Anonymous
Welcome to EKA123! Today I am joined by Kieffer and Joe from Tequila Mockingbird and we are celebrating the release of their new album "You Always Felt Lost", available as of today March 13! I knew this was going to be a special episode before we started because these mfs have been raved about in multiple episodes. If a band is from Michigan and they've been on our show, chances are they not only know TM, but they've probably played a show at Kieffer's house, also known as The Goblin Zone. In this interview we talk all about the Goblin Zone as well as all of the other infamous house show venues in Michigan that we have heard about on the pod. From the Church of Elvis Presley to the HOG house, this interview left me wishing I lived in Michigan (never thought I'd say that). We also dive into the origins of the band, their current and past favorite bands, and the making of LP1. These two are some of my favorite guests in show history, I hope you appreciate this interview as much as I appreciated taking part in it.

1 hr 28 min - 122. How to Become a Real Music Journalist with Kayla Moreno | Emo Kids Anonymous
Welcome to EKA122! Today we are joined by Kayla Moreno, a journalist and photographer from the Bay Area. Kayla runs a quarterly zine as well as a substack and is also part of punkaganda press. Kayla and Amanda go way back in the Fall Out Boy community and we have been running in similar circles for a while so it was only a matter of time before we all sat down. Kayla interviewed Fred from Cute is What We Aim For the day before us so we talk about that experience as well as some other notable interviews like Chad Gilbert of New Found Glory, along with how she got started. Do you want to be a photographer, journalist, podcaster etc? Then this is the megasode for you.

18 min - 119. Surrender The Ghost: Hilary Duff, DIY Emo and Ohio | Emo Kids Anonymous
Welcome to EKA 119! Today we're joined by Matthew Ellis and Ricky Gonzalez from the Ohio emo band Surrender The Ghost! From DIY to Deshaun Watson to Warped Tour to 2000's emo, this one has a little bit of everything for you. Hawthorne Heights, Palette Knife, Brandtson, we cover a lot of eras of emo, plus there is even a Mike Gundy moment! Are you surprised Hilary Duff is playing such large venues too, or are we old out of touch middle aged men? Don't worry, we cover that as well, hence the Mike Gundy mention. These guys were great fun. They said they would bring the energy like Handguns and although they aren't quite in the Langley league, they were still a pretty good time!

1 hr 6 min - 117. Cute Is What We Aim For According To Fred Cimato | Emo Kids Anonymous
Welcome to EKA 117! Today we are joined by Fred Cimato from 2000's emo scene stalwarts Cute Is What We Aim For. Fred has been making headlines this week thanks to a few tiktok videos but as we know, tiktok is no place for nuance so I thought it was only fair to give Fred the chance to expand on his statements but more importantly, tell his side of the story and control his narrative. Does he really think they were better than Paramore?Did John Feldmann ruin the band? Are the lyrics misogynistic? Is Shaant a dick? Can his past comments and behavior be atoned for? Does he want to? Will the fans ever get a CIWWAF reunion? We answer all of this and more.
Fred walks us through the whole history and band lore. From high school hallways in Buffalo to forming the band and finding themselves getting signed by John Janick and Fueled By Ramen in a matter of months. After that it was a whirlwhind of success for a band that may have been too young to be able to handle the pressures and pitfalls that come with. Tours with Fall Out Boy, Warped Tours, MySpace success and so many breakups. "The Same Old Blood Rush With A New Touch" was the fastest selling debut in FBR history and we talk about that era and what caused the breakup (sorry, John!). The story of Cute Is What We Aim For is worthy of it's own documentary and I hope I did a decent job cosplaying as journalist. Thank you for joining me Fred, it was a pleasure speaking with you!
