P Daddy has been one of the more requested bands in show history so it was a pleasure to have Kory join us. We discuss the differences between this record and Cosmic Thrill Seekers or I Thought You Didn't Like Leaving, the intentionality in the song writing, and if this is their best album yet (hint: yes). Kory talks about having to play the social media and press game and how it has changed over the last 10 years and whether or not he enjoys it. Also, Weezer comes up because of course they do. You won't believe Kory's Weezer hot takes! So brave, yet so true. This new record has been described by some (us) as "Fountains of Wayne on Amphetamines", while Kory says it is their attempt at a pop record. Their new album Impossible World dropped last month, featuring cameos from a few well known names in the industry, including a gentleman named Joe Trohman! Obviously we discuss how Joe ended up playing on their new record, as well as debating Fall Out Boy's hardcore credibility. Along with this, we also talk about the Seattle DIY scene, the importance of the Vera Project, and the way the scene has changed over the last decade or so. As former DIY venue owners themselves, this was an interesting perspective on the inner workings of the DIY community and we were absolutely floored at the amount of work Brian and the band do to cultivate their community. Welcome to EKA 136.5! A minisode where we examine the ties between the world shutting down and the recent resurgence in emo and emo adjacent music. After interviewing 80+ bands on this show, an overwhelming amount of them formed during covid. Some people baked sourdough some people made bands, I guess. From nostalgia acts to the litany of great young bands popping up over the past few years, it really does feel like 2020 was a bit of a calatyst.
