An invasive species of oak-killing beetles has been found in the unincorporated San Bernardino community of Sugarloaf. The goldspotted oak borer, or GSOB, is a species of beetle native to Arizona that’s found its way to California. It’s been found in San Diego, Riverside, Orange and Los Angeles Counties. A UC Riverside scientist is studying a previously unknown fault underlying the two large earthquakes that shook the town of Ridgecrest in July. Dr. Abhijit Ghosh is an associate professor of geophysics at UCR. On July 6, just a day after the 7.1 earthquake in Ridgecrest, Ghosh drove out to the city to install 25 seismometers in the ground. As the new school year begins, a Loma Linda doctor is urging students to get fully vaccinated in order to prevent the spread of infectious disease. Dr. Tyler Ladue, a family medicine physician at Loma Linda University Health, says the best way to not spread diseases like the measles is for everyone, especially young people, to get all their vaccines. The California Highway Patrol held a tribute today for the officer killed in Monday’s shootout in Riverside. Bells tolled Wednesday during a solemn CHP ceremony for Andre Moye, who was killed Monday during a shootout. The tribute for Moye was held at the CHP’s academy in West Sacramento. It came in place of the agency’s plan to celebrate its 90 th anniversary. Authorities are still investigating the incident and what led suspect Aaron Luther to shoot Moye and two other officers.
