  • 20. Courage To Start A New Niche with Memorial Artist and Photographer Shannon MacFarlane, owner of Slobbered Lens
This episode is packed with value for anyone wanting to start a unique business, or who feels like they don’t fit into a specific niche!

Today, I speak with Shannon MacFarlane owner of Slobbered Lens about how she got started as a photographer, storyteller, and memorial artist who honors grief and love in human-animal relationships.

Shannon started her business as a side hustle in 2009, and after health issues, went full time in 2016.

She was working in a job where she responded to emergencies, and it was too much for her nervous system. It came to the point where she needed to choose between work and her health - a big part of her identity was her job, so walking away was hard.

When she was pregnant, she was told he was incompatible with life. One of the things that she leaned on during that time, was pulling out her camera and seeing things differently. When her son was in the NICU, she photographed him and the things around him

What she does is very emotionally draining, lets herself feel emotions. She cries and that is okay with her. She felt shame at first but then realized that is just how she works. And allows herself to do that. She says that she cannot separate herself from her work, and the day she does she knows that is when she should stop doing it.

    1. Find a friend or fellow entrepreneur to talk to for a new perspective on business
    2. Find someone who will just listen to you when you need to talk
    3. Do only want feels good to you when it comes to business, there is no one right way

  • 16. Mental Health Days As a Solopreneur and Growing Your Side Hustle to Full Time with Dianne Shelton, the Founder of Passion Breakthrough
Today my guest is Dianne Shelton, the founder of Passion Breakthrough and an Award-Winning Certified Coach.

Dianne Shelton helps female entrepreneurs launch and scale their thriving online businesses using practical strategies and simple systems.

For over 10 years, Dianne was in the tech industry working with Fortune 500 companies. She realized that it was very male-dominated, but she wanted to start working with more women, so she founded Passion Breakthrough.

There were three main things that encouraged Dianne to leave her high-paying corporate job - filling up her cup with stuff she loves, taking back control of her mental health, and the desire to be surrounded by high-achieving women.

If you are anything like me, when I first started my business I was overwhelmed with everything I needed to do. Dianne’s advice is to prioritize your day by first doing your income-producing tasks and your relationship-building tasks.

She originally got her MBA to get ahead in the tech management field, but now uses her MBA to help other women start their own businesses. Once she found clarity in her business and her offers, she started networking and getting herself out there. The more you put yourself out there and make an offer to someone else, then you don't have a business!

    Action Steps:
    1. Stop procrastinating and commit go going all-in on your business - even with imperfect actions
    2. Prioritize networking
    3. Be comfortable with change

This is where he decided to stay on his fitness journey, leave the party scene, and started healing by investing in himself. He realized it was time for him to grow internally, outgrew the party life. A lot of his healing and self-worth came from being alone. He took the time to get to know himself

After college, he was not sure what he wanted to do. He was laid off from his job and was offered an opportunity with his friend, to start a party bus. He took his last $1000 from unemployment and grew the 1 bus company to a 6 bus company.

We talk about staying open to new opportunities but still having a safety net. We also talk about how he gets clients by branding himself very authentically. He stays consistent with his social media, and that keeps him getting clients. Consistency is everything. Everything you want in life comes from building a consistent habit.

  • 14. Pricing Your Products, and Staying Committed To Your Business with environmentally-conscious business owner Angie Ringler, Tangie LLC
Every step of the way leads you to where you are.

As entrepreneurs, we sometimes question why we spent tons of money on college, spent years in corporate life, but everything we have done gave us the experience we have today!

Angie Ringler, the founder of Tangie LLC, started her business based on curing an issue she was experiencing, sensitive skin.

Angie Ringler is the founder of the environmentally-conscious business Tangie LLC, doing business as WasteFreeProducts.com. Her company is a carbon-neutral business, using only plant-based ingredients, and is certified cruelty-free with Leaping Bunny certification.
What makes Angie a unique eco-warrior is a fact that she taught herself to discover solutions for her own personal health and skin issues. Through her resourcefulness and investigative spirit, she developed a unique manufacturing process that eliminated plastic bottles needed for liquid household cleaning and body products.

We talk deeply about staying motivated when you believe you are the only person committed to the cause - there are so many consumers for one product, but you have to stay dedicated to it.

We also talk about pricing your products in a sustainable way! As you grow, there is no way you can do everything yourself and be successful at it. Price yourself in a way that you understand that one day you will need to pay employees, assistants, services, a lawyer, or anything else that may occur. You have to consider what costs you will have in the future, even if you don’t need them now!

    In this episode:
    - Staying committed to your goals
    - Setting work boundaries
    - Finding the market for Waste Free Products

    Action steps:
    1. Buy bars, not bottles
    2. Grow something - it gives us more of a connection to the earth
    3. Read labels - really look at what is in the products you are using and the food you are eating

  • 12. Building A Profitable & Aligned Business+ Becoming A Client Magnet with Energetics & Mindset Coach, Mallory Meyer
When you know what you want and know who you want to help, you can become a magnet to your clients (if you work on your mindset!)

In this episode, I speak with Mallory Meyer, a Reiki Master, Medium, Cosmic Channel, and certified Life and Success Coach, NLP, TIME, EFT, and Hypnotherapy Practitioner.

Mal came from a corporate where she was an HR professional. The road to entrepreneurship was not a quick jump, but she always felt a calling to do something bigger and better. She climbed up the corporate ladder, and the more she climbed the less fulfilled she felt. In 2018 she went through reiki healing, and that was her life-changing pivotal point.

Mal helps spiritual entrepreneurs build a profitable and aligned business. What that entails is being specific around one offer when you are getting started. Building a high ticket premium offer will help you avoid burnout, and build a sustainable business!

If you want to attract your clients like a magnet, you need to know exactly who your ideal client is.

We also talk about how to get into the right mindset to visualize what you want from your business. For Mal, she recommends an EFT tapping session in the morning, holding space for your emotions to feel what you are actually feelings and working on your mindset. For me, the first coach I hired in my business was a mindset coach! This helped me grow Espresso Podcast Production so much.

Staying consistent and falling in love with your business, even on the hardest days, will set you up for success.

  • 11. Why You Need A Customer Case Study + Starting A Business as a Person with a Disability with Writer, Katie Corbett
Do you give your clients great results, but aren’t always sure how to express that to potential clients? A customer case study may be your answer!

In this episode, I speak with Katie Corbett, a writer who focuses on customer case studies! Back in 2014, Katie wrote her first case study and fell in love.

Katie Corbett works with business owners and marketing professionals so they can tell the success stories of their happy customers. She does this through writing customer case studies, gathering impactful testimonials, and collecting effective reviews. Katie has written for coaches of all types, technology companies, website developers, and graphic designers.

If you have been wondering if you should have a case study, this episode should help you find some clarity. We also talk about how to use a case study, because having one is one thing, but using it effectively is another!

We talk about how Katie came to learn her voice and writing style. A big pivoting point for her was when she found her niche and stopped taking work just for work - she only took on work that she loved.

Katie is totally blind, but that does not stop her from starting her own business and giving her clients amazing results. When she talks about herself and her business, she does not make this a part of her marketing!

While her business can be affected by her disability, she found a way to assemble a team around her for support.

    In this episode:
    - How Katie finds her clients
    - What is a customer case study
    - How to find your ideal writing style
    - How Katie assembled a team for support

    Action steps:
    1. Pick up a story of someone who inspires you, and consume that.
    2. Make a list of all the potential business ideas you have.
    3. Pick the next thing you would need to do to make your dreams come true.
