If you have been following our last few podcasts … you will know that we have had a strong focus on bullying.  If you are being bullied at work… you do not have to suffer in silence to make it stop. The road to freedom starts with telling someone this is happening to you.

This week’s podcast episode looks at hazing as a form of bullying. We look at the differences between bullying and hazing, and the reasons why a workplace bully might decide to haze you. We also look at how you might know if you are being hazed and the steps you can take to stop this form of bullying against you.

We hope you are finding some use for the employment rights information in our podcast episodes. It’s all about expecting fair treatment at work. And we… don’t think that is too much to ask!

The Employment Rights Online podcast is a podcast for employees and all types of workers and if that’s you, the information in our podcasts is written with your employment rights in mind.  

In this week’s episode, we continue our bullying theme as we move towards the start of our bullying course and bullying surgery. This week, we look at ‘breadcrumbing’ as a tactic your workplace bully or their flying monkey’s will use to lure you into a false sense of security, just so that you will fall harder when you realise you’ve been duped. Calculated … YES… and what’s more, when breadcrumbing is used in this way - it’s meant to be - to deliver maximum damage to your wellbeing at work. 

We’ll be looking at how you evidence bullying in a complaint so that it’s more difficult for your employer to ignore what is happening to you. We’ll be looking at this in our bullying course, which launches at the end of October 2022. We hope you are having a problem free employment rights week. Wouldn’t it be great, to just get a break …from bad behaviour at work!

This week, as we move nearer towards the launch of our Bullying Course, which is part of our Bullying Surgery services, we take a look at narcissistic workplace bullying, which is perhaps one of the most difficult forms of bullying you will ever have to deal with at work.  Why? Because a narcissistic workplace bully will break all the universal moral codes to get to you and bully the life out of you, just for the hell of it. 

Our take aways for this week’s episode are, that there are different types of bullies in the workplace and when you are dealing with a narcissistic workplace bully you are dealing with a unique set of challenges because of the persistent and deliberate attempts by this type of bully, to degrade you into submitting to their self-importance.

In last week’s episode, we looked at what could happen if you use your private social media accounts to make negative comments not just about work, but negative comments that could affect the reputation of the company you work for.         We also look at whether the company has a right to sack you for this, even though your comments are made from your own private social media account. 

This week we answer the question posed to us last week regarding whether you can be disciplined or sacked for complaining about workplace issues on social media – with a twist! The twist is whether you can then be held responsible and disciplined or sacked, for any negative comments in support of your posts, which come from friends and others on your feed, which your company may see as an act of misconduct.

In this week's podcast episode, we take another look at unfair dismissals after an Employment Tribunal delivered a damming decision to a company, for failure to follow their own sickness absence procedures and then deciding to terminate the employment of a staff member.

The key point here, is that it does not matter if you are the worst performing worker in the company, you still have a right to expect your employer to exercise fairness during any disciplinary process, including and even if the company, believes they have solid grounds to dismiss you.
