It's gonna be a whole lot of who do I think I am
I been breaking all illusions all 2020
I am not who I was a year ago
I'm realizing how dope that is
Thinking about who says who does she think she is, is not a divine woman's mentality
- from the song I See Thoughts by Toni Jones
Those lyrics are the powerful opening to the song I See Thoughts by Toni Jones, affirmation musician. I was so fortunate to have her as the guest for the first episode of Empower Your Magical Self, my new podcast.
The podcast is one arm (leg? tentacle?) of my dharma, my mission in life: to help people find the magic within themselves. My goal is to help people connect with that magic until they're so enchanted by themselves that nothing can really hurt them. And then go further with that quest self-love quest.
As for my own quest for happiness, it really picked up speed once I began living by my Soul-Lit - a carefully considered way of life that makes me happy.
A big part of my Soul-Lit is music. I've written a lot about the high-vibe music I'm into, and how it helps me stay in a good mental place.
Toni Jones was the first musician I heard in the genre, and her music has had a big impact on my life. That's why I'm so grateful to her for joining me as my very first guest on Empower Your Magical Self.
Take Up Space Sis was the first Toni Jones song I heard, and I'd never heard anything like it.
I remember the warmth literally rising within my body as I heard her words for the first time, telling me (it seemed like she was talking directly to me) to take up space. To not shrink myself for anyone.
Wow.
I was so inspired that I immediately listened to her entire catalog. I've never really stopped listening to her music since then.
During our conversation, I asked Toni what her definition of magic is. Here's her answer, edited only for clarity.
"Magic has been branded as something out of the norm, but the magical is really our most natural state. We're experiencing magic all the time. Our cells are literally dying and regenerating themselves all the time. We're constantly experiencing this miraculous operation of self that keeps us going without our effort..it's hooked up to some type of Source Intelligence to do what it's designed to do.
I believe magic is our most natural state. Magic is our imagination. The fact that you can look at me right now through this iPhone, that's magical…that you can see my physical presence here. My voice through a device…that defies logic! But this phone is capitalizing on unseen energy? That's magical.
And it's the same thing with our imagination, you can look at me right now, but you can imagine the color of your bathroom right now too. You can just take the moment and look at me and you can literally go into your mind's eye and see the color of your bathroom. That's magical. So I think that the 'normal' way of thinking and operating in life is more weird and insane. And abnormal.
I believe magic has been branded as though it's out of the norm, or it's something that's very rare, but no, magic is literally what we live every single day."
There's a lot more of that wisdom on the podcast!
Toni and I share a very similar experience in that we both had mental health crises in 2019 that almost led to our demise.
Because of that, she and I talked quite candidly about that experience and what it took for her to get out of that dark place.
While I believe our conversation can be extremely helpful to some people, I know that it might also be triggering or at least uncomfortable for others. Thus I've taken that portion of our conversation out of the podcast episode and put it in a separate video that I'll post on my YouTube channel.
I'm so grateful to Toni for spending an hour with me. It's the first of what I know will be a truly magical series of conversations!
