    • Coffee with Corinne

Today's episode will fill you in on what's been happening for me and what you can expect from Empowered to Thrive moving forward! I wanted to talk about how we can be sure to still prioritize our needs even in the middle of busy seasons. It is been challenging for me to not fall back into my condition patterns, those patterns that I got used to growing up. I was the codependent people pleaser, always meeting the needs of other people at my own expense... I still notice -Ohh! I have another layer of healing that needs to happen. For example, walking. It's a lot harder for me to take walks in the summer, I've noticed, than it is when my kids are in school I can just carve out 30 minutes or more in a day when they're in school. A lot easier than me having to say where are we going to plan for the day's activities and then in addition to that we're going to all go on this walk. It's just more complicated. It's possible, of course, but it's a lot harder. I'm having to figure out how do I take care of myself. And I could sit here and tell you I haven't done a very good job of it, but I think I'm not going to go from that angle I think that's a critical, judgmental critique, that angle, not those words. And, how I'm choosing to look at it is actually that you know what, because of all the healing that I've experienced already, because of all the intention I've put into my healing journey I'm managing this busy season heck of a lot better than I would have in the past. I'm more regulated. I'm enjoying my children. I'm not exhausted even when I'm tired. I'm overall taking care, much better care of myself and my body. And it's proving so in this very busy season. So are there more layers of hearing healing to experience? Is there more intentional work I can do to take better care of myself? Yes, and I'm figuring that out. And I don't mind showing up in the middle of my process and saying I'm figuring it out because I think there's value in us learning together as we're on the journey. My goal is not to say here, look at me. I've got it all. It's not my goal. My goal is to say we're in it together, and because I've been on the healing journey now for almost two decades, yes, I have things that I'm going to be able to help you with. I have things that I'm going to, I've experienced a lot where I'm going to be able to say, oh, I empathize, I can understand.  I know what you're feeling. That's, that's valuable to know that somebody has been there before us, that somebody understands it, and that they have tools to help us, and that's what I've got for you. I've got tools I've got empathy. I do understand. I get it. I also am in the process. And I will always be in process. I will be becoming more and more the beautiful, authentic person that I am meant to be. And the best part of maybe where I'm at right now is that I've recognized over the last recently, I don't know, two years maybe, I can love myself in the process a lot more. I have a lot more compassion for myself instead of judging myself and looking back at my past self or looking at my present self and being -Ohh no. I'm able to embrace the fact that you know what? I'm in the process. Here's where I'm at. And I'm going to show up and be me in it. I know we all have our condition patterns, the ways that our childhood affected us, and the things that became easy for us, that may be toxic, that may not be helping us in our present life, and as we recognize what those condition patterns are, the next step is saying what do we want to do about it. And then finding help to do something about it and getting the support you need. What is it for you? What is a condition pattern that you recognize, I  fall back into this and it's really, it's borderline toxic and it's least not helping me out and I don't want to continue in it. And once you've determined that. Then find help, myself or someone else, and together let's get you where you want to go.

    • Living From Compassion

Compassion is underrated. Let's talk about the importance and impact of it! I'm so happy to be with you. Today on the podcast we are talking about compassion. Self-compassion and compassion in general. This is vital on the healing journey. If it wasn't modeled to you, and you dont even know where to start with being compassionate towards yourself or the other people around you then I'm really glad you're here.

I'm gonna try to break it down, I'm gonna try to simplify it for you. Compassion is connected to living from your heart. It's gonna take consideration of yourself and others. If you have a raging inner critic who likes to tell you what are you doing wrong, who likes to point out the flaws in yourself, and others. Side note -The voice that we hear, the inner critic, is often learned.- You may have had a parental figure, a caregiver, or someone else very impactful in your life, that looked at life through that extremely critical lens. We subconsciously pick it up and it's a very learned response. It's a learned inner voice. It doesn't mean that you are the critique. We can separate that critical voice from us, and say

      - "Oh, I hear you but I don't need to accept and believe and agree with what are you saying right now."

The inner critic always wanna point a finger at you, and point a finger at others and it's just that, it's a very critical and judgy voice. The self-compassion, the compassionate voice, definitely going have to challenge the inner critic. Just to give you a little bit of a back story, I used to have a raging inner critic. I was far from self-compassion, I was very hard on myself. I did things that were physically growling, to prepare myself. I needed to be prepared for whatever might come ahead. Let me just do these things now, to make sure I've got what it takes, and that I'm tuff.

And all of that might be okay, but what was fuelling was not compassion. And I looked at myself in the mirror and, automatically was disgusted with myself. I saw all the things I dislike. Doesn't matter what the scale said, I was never happy with how my body looked. That I didn't look good. That's the thing whit this, when we are critical of ourselves when we see ourselves from a critical, judgy lens, It doesn't matter how we are going to show up, you are never going to be satisfied or happy. It may not even matter how other people show up, you may not be satisfied with them as well.

It's deep work, it's heart-centered, and it changes over time as we practice. Yes! It is necessary to practice being compassionate towards yourself and others.

And the more you learn how to be compassionate towards yourself, you will be more compassionate to others.

    • What's Important to Healing?

[...We're going to be talking about the key components of the healing journey. And maybe you are already on the healing journey. Perhaps you're just about to begin it, or you're contemplating whether or not you should change the pace of your life, and incorporating more sleep and rest, in general, is super important to your healing.

Now you can start small if you currently live your life. Go, go, go.

Maybe not getting much sleep at all. Not feeling comfortable with naps and relaxing during the day. Sometimes we have these underlying beliefs that it's OK to relax in the evening. It's OK to watch a show in the evening, but that's not OK during the day.

And it's good to get curious about those reasons, the way we think and the beliefs underneath them It might be because of what was modeled to you and how your parental figures and caregivers thought or it could be for totally other reasons, but. practicing a slower pace is important, so you can start anywhere that might mean you eliminate one activity from your weekend, so there's one less thing that you're doing on the weekend or you eliminate something from your week.

Maybe it's gonna look like starting to get 15 minutes more of sleep each night and then once you've been doing that for a couple of weeks adding another 15 minutes so you're getting now 1/2 an hour extra of rest each week. Whatever you do to bring in a small incremental change, be sure to stick with it for a little while before you bring in another change. It's really important to make small incremental changes, not lots of things or big changes all at once I mean, sometimes that'll happen, but it's not a good way to practice and especially if you're just starting on the healing journey you have to start small because you want it to last.

And you want to practice whatever that change is, and I use the word practice because you need to do it on repeat It's a new thing we're doing. So practice it for a while before you then bring in another new change cause you want all of this to stick and last. And I'm guessing a lot of us can relate to that idea of a New Year's resolution, or a list of New Year's resolutions, and jumping into it super strong but then petering off before even the end of January, or at least by springtime.

That's not the goal of this. The goal of this is to incorporate changes and lifestyle patterns that last that that last forever, or at least ebb and flow with the seasons of our life.

I want to jump in with a quick example of what might happen though at certain times or the further along you get on the healing journey. There may be a very large change that you need to make all of a sudden but because I've experienced that.

But what other components that are playing in is that it's been a gradual progression behind the scenes like you've been doing all these other deeper things you've been working it out on a deeper level, so that what seems to be this big change all of a sudden was gradually happening. You were preparing for it in ways you probably didn't even realize.

And I say that because, like, even I didn't realize the way that I was preparing for certain things, that all of a sudden just felt like now is the time. And yes, this is a very big pivot, but now is the time for this. And I can say three years later, like, I'm still practicing whatever change it was a very abrupt pivot. But It was a slow progression underneath the surface and so keep that, keep that in mind another very big key to the healing journey is practicing mindfulness...]

    • Perks of the Healing Journey

[...It's always good to be with you, and this week we're going to talk about the benefits of going on the healing journey.

Perhaps you're already on it, maybe you're experiencing some of these benefits, or perhaps you're on the healing journey dissatisfied or nervous. That may be the result someone else gets, but you're not going to get it.

Here is what my heart wants you to know. It takes time. There are ups and downs. But rest assured, you will start to experience some of the things you've been hoping for that you're hearing me or other people talk about. Oftentimes we can't even see the change that's happening within us. But other people can sometimes tell changes happening within you because of what happens on the outside.

So you are changing. Things are turning for your good. It will not always be as hard as it might be today. I've been at this for almost two decades. I recognize it is so layered. There's so much to the healing journey, and in the moments, I have periods where I don't go back to where I used to be because it's a different layer. But I have to remind myself in those times that feel dark and difficult that I'm going to come through them and I'm going to be changed as I come through them.

We've changed as we go through these experiences. We don't come out the same as we did when you go through a low point and you come out of it. You were changing in the middle of it, even if you can't tell. You'll have to take my word for it.

Give yourself time. Healing takes time. But let me get to it.

What are some of the things you can expect on the healing journey? First off, you're going to be able to show up as your authentic self more and more comfortably.

If you're anything like me, I used to walk into a room, wondering what everyone was thinking of me, and change who I was and how I showed up to try and make everyone else comfortable. With hopes that everyone would be happy with me or would like me. Most of that was subconscious. I wasn't thinking about all those things, but underneath the surface, that's what was going on.

Over time, again, without me even realizing it. healing was happening and I was more and more comfortable in my own body with myself, so I was able to show up and be me without the same amount of shame. Without the fear, and having to apologize less and less.

I used to say I'm sorry all the time. I was sorry for just being me. Why does that happen? Oftentimes when we are very young before we even remember, things happened when we were little, that impacted us tremendously.

We don't even remember. We learn what makes our caregivers, our parental figures, happy, and our goal in life really, truly is to be accepted, to be loved, and even better, to be liked.

We notice especially certain personalities, certain types of people more than others are going to be connected and in tune with our caregiver's facial expressions. What their attitudes are towards us, they're emotional states.

But what we don't recognize as kids is there's so much playing into why our parents or our caregivers show up the way they are.

It's not all about us, but we think it is. It's a very childlike thing to walk into a room and think it's all about us. The more we grow emotionally the hope is that we recognize everything isn't about us. People are talking, but they're probably talking about something not related to us, and there are a lot of us adults that still think everything's about us, and I don't say that critically I'm only shining light on that to say, as we heal, we worry less about what other people think. We don't internalize everyone's reactions, emotional states, or facial expressions as a reflection of us...]
