When starting off, most people pursuing a freelance careers have to take other jobs to support themselves in the beginning. These are often called 'survival jobs' and can have a negative connotation associated with them. These negative connotations often stem from toxic work environments that people find themselves in and can span across any industry out there. Today I'm telling you that it's time to say goodbye to toxic work environments while you're pursing your creative career and it's okay to leave them behind.

Most often when people start their artistic careers, they have other commitments as well they have to attend to; sometimes it's full time jobs or school. The question I get most often is how do I balance everything? Well aside from not sleeping, it all comes down to finding the free time that I do have and setting that time aside to work on my artistry and projects. In-person live performances of theatre, opera, concerts, stand-up comedy shows, and more came to an abrupt halt in March 2020. Since then, live performances have slowly begun to come back and stronger than ever! This is a sign that things are headed in the right direction, though with new COVID-19 cases rising across the country, many places have reinstated indoor mask mandates; many places in the Washington DC area included. Today I share my thoughts on what this means for the future of live, in-person performances and what I think might be the next step the community takes.
