  • [059] Making Mistakes & My Messy Dietitian Journey [ARCHIVE EPISODE]

I just got married! And so while I unplug for a honeymoon road trip across the country, I'm re-sharing some of my most valuable episodes from my archive. In this episode, originally aired August 23rd 2020, I discuss...how lost I felt as an RD for most of my 20s, how to embrace uncertainty, unexpected pivots, and "dead ends" in our careers and lives, and my top tips for overcoming the fear of making a mistake so that you can confidently find your path as a dietitian. • [058] Building Confidence Through Professional Values

In this episode, I share my own business values and use them to discuss...why I'm adamant about NOT being the only, or the biggest, expert in the room...how I use ethics to guide tough professional decisions...and how I have learned to embrace who I am wholeheartedly as a dietitian, and as a person. Oh, and how I'm committed to helping other dietitians embrace who THEY are authentically, too! This is also my LAST new episode before my wedding and honeymoon - after this week I will be re-sharing some of my most valuable episodes from the archive, and will return with new episodes mid-October. I'll also at that point be getting ready to launch my brand new group program, so in the meantime, connect with me on Instagram @empowering.dietitians to learn all about it and receive regular (new!) content to help you feel inspired, confident, and connected to your work. • [057] August Reflections: Rest, Stress, & Self-Trust

In this month's reflections episode, I'm dialing it back to reflect on how I navigated some pretty stressful, overwhelming moments recently, and sharing 3 affirmation that I'm holding close to heart as reminders to help further reduce my stress and keep me focused. I'm also giving you a little sneak peek into my cross-country road trip honeymoon that's coming up next month, and letting you know how Empowering Dietitians will be affected as I balance my business with the need to unplug and be present for this trip. At the start of this episode, I also offer a follow-up to last week's episode on Diet Culture in the Wedding Industry, and reference an article on Ragen Chastain's blog, Dances with Fat. • [056] Diet Culture in the Wedding Industry

Diet culture in the wedding industry will, at some point, impact us all -- even if we never get married, chances are, we will be in a bridal party, a guest, or...a dietitian whose patient or client has been impacted by the stress of it all. So in this episode, I discuss not only how diet culture within the wedding industry can impact us, but also what we can do about it, whether we're the ones getting married, in the bridal party, a guest, a vendor, or a practitioner working with someone who needs support in this area. Diet culture can be sneaky, and its roots run deep, which is why I'm committed to naming it whenever I see it -- to learn more about how diet culture impacts us as dietitians, and what we can do about it, connect with me on Instagram @empowering.dietitians or via email at www.empoweringdietitians.com/newsletter.

  • [055] Should You Hire a Business Coach?

In this episode, I share my own personal experience working with multiple business coaches over the past few years, and discuss my top tips for knowing...when it's a good time to hire a business coach...when it might NOT be a good time to hire a business coach (and what to do instead)...and how to make sure that you're hiring someone who's a good fit for you and the type of support you need. The work that I do is often conflated with business coaching, but really serves its own purpose. While business coaches focus on your business, I focus on you -- and you don't have to be a business owner to benefit from that. If you struggle with burnout, imposter feelings, time management, and boundaries as a dietitian -- or lately you've flat out been feeling dispassionate or disconnected from your work -- supervision may be the support you're looking for. Doors to my supervision programs are temporarily closed, so instead you can connect with me either on Instagram @empowering.dietitians or via email at www.empoweringdietitians.com/newsletter!

  • [054] Avoiding Burnout in a Group Practice

The group practice model is becoming increasingly popular, for dietitian practice owners who are experiencing more demand for their services than they can handle, as well as for dietitians looking for some counseling experience and potentially a more flexible job. So why, then, are so many dietitians who move into this space experiencing MORE burnout, rather than less? In this episode I discuss...the pitfalls of many group practices...what practice owners can do to make their group effective, efficient, and sustainable...and what contracted dietitians within a group practice can do if they're feeling burnt out or overwhelmed. I work with a lot of dietitians in this area, so if you're struggling and want to connect, join me on Instagram @empowering.dietitians or via email at www.empoweringdietitians.com/newsletter. I'm not currently enrolling dietitians into my supervision programs, but stay tuned for an exciting new Empowering Dietitians support system coming soon!

In this episode, I am joined by Stephanie Notaras, an Australia-based dietitian who specializes in counseling training for fellow dietitians. We discuss...the biggest issues holding dietitians back when it comes to counseling more, and more effectively...how to respect scope of practice and not cross that line over into therapy...and the work Stephanie is doing to empower dietitians with increased counseling confidence. • [050] 5 Time-Based Reasons You're Burnt Out

In this episode, I discuss...how society (overall, and within dietetics specifically) has set us up to feel stressed about time...the consequences of letting ourselves get too busy and overwhelmed...and 5 of the most common ways time management is contributing to your burnout. Dietitians are experts at staying busy, and if you're struggling with stress, overwhelm, or burn out, how you manage your time and the boundaries you do or don't set around your time are probably part of it.
