Empty Opinions episodes

  • “Big Drummer Energy” (w/ Ren Cinema)

This week’s episode might be one of my favorites in a long time. I have musician and visual artist Ren Cinema as a guest and we begin the episode talking about making good music with limited resources, before we get into other in-depth discussions about the difference between art vs. content, the Tiktokification of music, and most importantly, his latest album REM SINEMA: a dream i forgot about 8 mins ago.

Make sure you follow him on Instagram and TikTok, as well as check out the aforementioned album on Apple Music and Spotify.

  • C*m Nuggets

Hey! I’m back with an actual bonus episode (not a book club) and joining me is thee fashun fiend himself Noah Thomas-Sneed! We start the episode talking about the Kanye West-sized elephant in the room before we delve into other pop culture topics like the current female rap civil war that’s happening (16:26), Nicki Minaj’s most recent music (28:34), the toxic Blueface & ChriseanRock relationship (55:28) and much more.

Make sure to follow Noah on Twitter, Instagram and TikTok. Also, if you enjoyed listening to this episode, check out our last episode that we did together.

  • “The Silent Patient” Book Review

I’m back with another bonus episode for you guys! Although… it’s not technically a bonus episode. It’s really an episode of EMPTY Pages, the monthly book club Dee and I host. However, since it’s in this feed, I am categorizing it as such.

This month’s book is Alex Michaelides’ The Silent Patient. But before we get into it, we talk about what book we’ll be discussing next month, and that will be Claire-Louise Bennett’s Checkout 19! So make sure you read alongside us this next month and join in the discussion.

Later in the episode, we give you a quick rundown of what this month’s book is all about (5:51), whether we recommend it or not (8:29), and then finally our in-depth spoiler discussion! (14:55).

Make sure you follow Dee on her TikTok, Twitter and Instagram, as well as check out her reading journal Dee Reads Books, and her blog The Life of an African Girl in America.

  • “Black Queerness In Media” (w/ Darien Woodard)

This week, my guest is quite possibly the only scripted filmmaker in artsy Philly, Darien Woodard! I break the ice by asking them to rate my setup for the podcast, which then leads us into a conversation about the intersectionality between music and visual arts (8:53), why scripted content feels so inaccessible (44:49), their pet peeves in the current landscape of queer media (58:55), and to end the episode, I audition to be cast in a future 10:01 Media project (1:15:49).

Make sure to follow Darien on Twitter and Instagram, as well as check out their website to see all of their works.

  • Voices In My Head

If I’m not mistaken… it’s only been one week since the last episode, right? Wow. I can’t believe I wrote those words down.

For this bonus episode, I have someone on the podcast who I actually met while doing Uber! Well, in person at least. She’s been someone I’ve been wanting to have on the podcast for a while. I actually know her by association, since she knows two people I’ve had on the pod already (Kameo and Noah). Her name is Jamira Fitchett, and we start the episode by praising Lauryn Hill, before we get into some more in-depth topics like her incredible media production journey (8:32), formality in media (20:29), and her recent mental breakdown that led her to a big self-discovery (42:14).

Make sure to follow her on Instagram and Twitter, subscribe to her YouTube channel, and follow her art page on Instagram.

  • “I Hate Artsy Philly” (w/ Cosmic Wiz)

First things first… I’m sorry I haven’t uploaded an episode in over a month. I have reasons for them, and if you would like to know more, check out the last paragraph of this description.

But for now, let me talk about this episode’s guest, Cosmic Wiz! She is a model, musician, and probably the most controversial figure in artsy Philly. And yeah, you can bet we talked about that. In GREAT detail. We first get into how she got her following (1:28), then we get into pretty much her entire life story (35:12), and finally she breaks down all the times she’s been “cancelled” (1:10:56). If you enjoyed Wiz as a guest, make sure you follow her on Instagram and TikTok.

If you’re reading this part, that means you are interested in what’s been happening in my life, and I really appreciate that. For starters, I’m the co-host of another (more successful) podcast! You can check me out every Saturday on the Listen To This While You Shit podcast, available on Apple Podcast, Spotify and YouTube. Also, I’ve started two new YouTube channels: one for movie/TV content and the other for music content. If you are interested in either of those, make sure to subscribe!

But that’s all. Hopefully now I can get back to a more consistent schedule for content. See you soon!

  • Kameo Is Back!

BONUS CONTENT! Since the EMPTY Opinions episodes will not be dropping weekly anymore, I figured the least I could do is start dropping bonus episodes. And what better way to kickstart these bonus episodes than by having Kameo back on the podcast! We talk about why it’s impossible to hate on Drake, 2020 being a fever dream, Lil Uzi Vert being the biggest rapper from Philly, choosing between fame, fortune, family or happiness, getting to the bottom of Kehlani’s ethnicity and much more. However, this is only PART ONE of this episode! Make sure to check out PART TWO on Kameo’s podcast Sick, Sad Simulation.

  • “Portrait Mode Is Nasty!” (w/ Boujee Lynn)

My main goal with EMPTY Opinions is to make it as high quality as possible. So unfortunately, that means these episodes are not going to release weekly. However, I can damn near guarantee they will all be 🔥. This episode ain’t no different. For this episode I have creative photographer and curator Boujee Lynn on the podcast as we deep dive into the world of photography. We talk what makes a real photographer (9:15), on the other side of the camera, what makes a great model (24:38), Boujee’s projects outside of photography (33:55) and much more.

  • Rumaan Alam’s Leave the World Behind | EMPTY Pages

Welcome to the first episode (on this feed) of EMPTY Pages, the book club that I do! It used to be in a separate feed, but I’ve decided to bring it here alongside all the other EMPTY shows I’m doing. This episode, Dee and I are discussing our book of the month: Rumaan Alam’s Leave the World Behind. We give a quick rundown of the book and the author (3:23), then we give our general thoughts on the book and if we recommend it or not (9:49), and finally we have a spoiler-filled discussion about the book! (16:19)

Next month’s book: Alex Michaelides’ The Silent Patient

  • JID, Megan Thee Stallion & Young Nudy | EMPTY Notes

I try to be conscious of the audio listener’s experience to this podcast most of the time. This is not one of those times, since I did TWO reactions on this episode! I start the episode reacting to JID’s latest single Dance Now, but then I do another reaction to Megan Thee Stallion’s L.A. Leakers freestyle (14:13). And finally, I give a quick review of Young Nudy’s latest album EA Monster (24:38).
