And so when we feel frustrated, when we don’t understand the situation that we’re in, or when we don’t understand the way that somebody else is acting, I think it’s helpful for us to recognize that we don’t know all the pieces. We don’t always know how God is working, in fact, a lot of times we don’t know how God is acting. Or put another way, how do we feel when we’re going to do the reading together? How do we feel when we’re going to sit down and do bible study? Do we think “ugh, this again?”

Patience is not grit. Patience is not perseverance. Patience is the ability to persevere with joy. It’s the ability to recognize the situation that we’re in, no matter how silly it is and ask how can we be patient with joy? How can we use the opportunity God is giving us to grow? We can do more than endure, we can endure knowing that all of this has a purpose. We can endure knowing that all of it is an opportunity and in doing so we can endure with joy.

Throughout our day, we have various slots of time. Now usually our day is structured around things that take a lot of our time. You know, we go to work, or we go to school, we have meals, we have specific events or things that we plan to attend, or get-togethers, times when we’re going to meet with other people. So there are specific things in our lives that we often plan our time around. Outside of those things we have other periods of time. What I’m talking about there are periods of time that are generally unstructured. A time where you have 30 seconds while you’re waiting in a line, a time when you’re walking out to your car, a time when you’re laying in bed before you go to sleep, a time when you’re brushing your teeth, you know we have various small chunks of time and its those times that I want to think about specifically. What if, during those times, you thought about God?
