We need comprehensive gun reform NOW:

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [ZIP code]. I am calling to ask [Name] to push for strong, comprehensive gun legislation. This means: banning weapons of war and high capacity magazines; requiring thorough training and permitting for all gun purchases; limiting purchases of ammunition; requiring smart technology to reduce accidents; implementing a national buy-back program; and ending the ban on gun violence research. Thank you.”

We are under attack from Russia and need to defend ourselves:

And now we need to call about DREAMers. Success in the Senate is far from guaranteed. McConnell has promised open amendments, but racists elements in the Senate are using DREAMers as bargaining chips to add harsh anti-immigration language, that would drastically change current immigration policy, to the final bill. Congress needs to do their job. They need to pass a budget, protect Dreamers/TPS holders, fund Community Health Centers and protect our democracy.

ACTION OF THE WEEK

We need to protect DREAMers and Temporary Protected Status holders.  There is a lot of confusion among plans and our job is to be LOUD about what we want.

Script for calling your Congressperson and Senator

“I am very concerned about DREAMers and TPS recipients.  I want the Senator/Rep to support and vote yes on a DREAM act that protects Dreamers and TPS recipients and keeps families together.”

And while we do this we need to manage expectations.  Not being defeatist but realistic.  We are in the minority.  If this goes through there is likely to be a wall – and that is okay because these kids and people are worth it.  The only chance we have to get this done it to keep the pressure on.  So please keep calling

MAIN ASK OF THE WEEK:

Well the shutdown came and went. And while people will be debating for a long time which “side” won that is missing the point.  We have our values for which we are fighting and for which we have to keep fighting.  We must stand up to racism and help those who need it most.  We are still in desperate need of protections for Dreamers and a DREAM Act  The only chance we have of making the GOP stand up to Trump’s racism is to be loud and shame them into passing these bills.

Finish up the work of 2017

We are still at it and this week the spending bill action takes on added urgency as we must stand up to trump’s racism.

Script for calling: “only for vote a spending bill if it has a clean DREAM act, permanent CHIP funding and adequate disaster relief. We must provide for all and stand up to Trump’s racism”

Bonus Action

Elections matter.  The new work requirements for Medicaid, show the disdain Trump and GOP have for the working poor and medically frail who are on Medicaid (which have documented benefits.  But there no clear congressional call to action as this is an administrative decision.  And who knows what healthcare they will cut next
